In his new book, Through His Eyes, Jerram Barrs writes: How does the Lord see women? I felt the best way to answer this question was to look at particular women whose stories are told in the Scriptures and to reflect on what God has to say. What does God think about women. What does God think about women, and how does he treat them? My passionate desire and prayer is that the book will be an encouragement to women and a challenge to men to treat women with the same honor that the Lord himself shows.

Eve, Sarah, Deborah, Mary, the woman at the well… women have played pivotal roles in redemptive history. Their case studies reveal God's perspective on women, then and now.

This book is exactly what the title sets it out to be, a look at the Bible to find God's perspective on women in the Bible. What it is not is a topical study on women and how women should be and what a good woman is and how great women are, etc. It is simply several compelling stories and teachings from the lives of women as told in the Bible. Barrs is more concerned with getting their story right than making their story "applicable" to today. And for that, the book is benefited.

Read this for strong Biblical perspective on women, for great writing, great textual teaching, for though-provoking truths about the role of women in the Bible. Do not read it for fluffy-puffy Chicken Soup For the Woman's Soul.

Dr. Barrs explores the spiritual and cultural context of women whose stories are recorded in the Bible, those that many would recognize but also those that are more obscure and difficult to read. He navigates through difficult topics (infertility, polygamy, rape, incest) to help the reader understand what we may learn about God, the women who are included in these stories and their response to their circumstances and to God. The author has a conservative/complementarian background, and treats the women in the Bible with dignity, compassion and gentleness in the writing. He does not impose a role on women through this book, but instead focuses on how these women's stories reflect the human sin and culpability that they live in.
  • Malara
This book has given me a new perspective on women and how God uses us to His purposes. By learning God's thinking about women in the Bible, it is not much of a stretch to transfer this perspective to the modern-day woman and how she fits into His plan.
  • Dream
How God sees women is not quite what we sometimes envision. He loves us unconditionally and values us. A wonderful book for women and men to read!!
It is especially good for those who have gone through difficult times in their lives and may have a hard time forgiving themselves. God is bigger than our sin and loves us in ways we often forget.
