Nothing beats a riveting missionary story. These include: A stomach-churning tightrope walk across quicksand. A loving big brother who takes a beating to introduce a future missionary to the power of grace and mercy. The sad fate of a Guatemalan beggar who rejects free medical treatment. A large glass beaker that brims with blood as a Mayan priest sacrifices animal after animal

And missionary Gary T. Stone retells events from his life as a Christian and his work in missions like no one else. In addition to the gripping tales like those above, many lighter moments punctuate What if Everyone Lived Next Door to Jesus? The ludicrous expression of horror on the face of a mission team member when, upon removing his shoe after a long hike, out slides the limp corpse of a jungle lizard. An t's-true look at a "Heeere, sinner, sinner, sinner" approach to evangelism.

Their hearts are aflame with the testimony of Jesus Christ, and they sincerely want others to experience the same joy they have found in the Savior’s gospel. But, you might ask, what if I do all this and people react poorly?

Their hearts are aflame with the testimony of Jesus Christ, and they sincerely want others to experience the same joy they have found in the Savior’s gospel. Some members of the Church seem to have a gift for this. They love being ambassadors of the gospel. They boldly and gladly serve and lead the work as member missionaries. However, others of us are more hesitant. But, you might ask, what if I do all this and people react poorly?

And at the foundation of each tale lie Gary's wry, gentle humor and the tenderness he has for God and His children. Much like Jesus Himself, Gary uses everyday situations to explain a much bigger truth. Once you read a story such as "The Christmas Buzzard", you'll understand his true talent for seeing spiritual principles in the least likely of circumstances.

This is an amazing collection of stories and applications that is sure to challenge every Christian. Gary is using the same technique that Jesus often used, telling a good story to make a point about a Biblical truth. These stories make a great daily reading...the only challenge is to be able to stop after just one! Thanks Gary for taking the time and energy to compile this book...its a testament to God's faithfulness and an encouragement to all of us to live a life of purpose. I'm buying a bunch and giving them away for presents...hope many others do the same thing.

What If Everyone Lived Next Door to Jesus: And Other Meditations from a Missionary's HeartI've been a big fan of Gary's writing through his newsletter for years now, and have really been looking forward to his book being published. You just can't stop reading with one story but have to hurry to the next. He is a master storyteller.

This book was everything I knew it would be. Warm, inspirational, easy to read - along with a thought or lesson that would stay in my heart the rest of the day. When I was reading this, I would read a few chapters; put it down for a few days (due to a busy family life); pick it up and read some more. I have even re-read chapters and enjoyed them just as much the second time around. Gary's words and heart share the love of Jesus and urge me to be more like Him.

This is a terrific collection of stories that convey remarkable truths in captivating ways. Gary is a master storyteller and one of those people who seems to collect more than his fair share of amazing stories. Makes a great devotional book.
I could not put this book down and found myself laughing, crying, and praising the Lord all in the same hour! I plan to buy copies for gifts for loved ones as well as for some neighbors who are new to walking with God. If you want to read wonderful and Biblical writing, read this book!
