Margaret Becker, Coming Up for Air How did I end up here? Has that question ever flashed through your mind? . About 10 years ago Margaret Becker would probably have been thought to have achieved the American Dream.

Margaret Becker, Coming Up for Air How did I end up here? Has that question ever flashed through your mind? Perhaps you feel as though life has just pushed you along, leaving your dreams and aspirations in its wake. A hit Christian artist, who traveled the world, a role model to many, she seemed to almost have it all (she was - and still is - single so to all those out there who think you can't be happy unless married, that would have been one strike against her!).

Coming Up for Air book. Coming Up for Air was a breath of fresh air. The book covered the personal journey of the author to redefine her hectic and exhausting life. Maggie B is an acclaimed writer, speaker, and recording artist. Her lifestyle was living from one hotel to the next on tour, not developing satisfying personal relationships, and not having a moment's peace to rejuvenate her soul. The book is scattered with small bombshells of thought-provoking material.

Once again Margaret Becker has written a truly refreshing book! In Coming Up for Air she challenges, encourages and guides her readers into a lifestyle free of burdens and guilt

Once again Margaret Becker has written a truly refreshing book! In Coming Up for Air she challenges, encourages and guides her readers into a lifestyle free of burdens and guilt. This book is a great tool for someone looking to become more comfortable with who God has made them as they attempt to enjoy life and make a difference in the world at the same time. I highly recommend it. 0.

1) Coming Up for Air: Simple Acts to Redefine Your Life by Margaret Becker. Every time I sat down to read this book it was like taking a mini-vacation. I felt Margaret’s attempts at "being" rather than doing in her journaling. I longed to go to a beach house on the Gulf in December. And picked up ideas I can use in my home here in Michigan. This isn’t a how to book – it’s an honest reflection of thinking about what is important in life. It’s also humorous and helps you appreciate.

I bought this book because of Margaret's music. Her lyrics have always been deep, insightful, creative, thought provoking, you name it, very good stuff. This book is just as awesome as her lyrics. Margaret talks about her decission to watch the sunrise and sunset for 30 consecutive days. To slow down, come up for air - and watch the world wake up and go to sleep. That sounds really simple and boring...but, what those thirty days awoke, what came up with the sun, what transpired during the sun sinking into the ocean...it was well worth writing a book about, and well worth reading about. She pulls some childhood experiences and weaves them into how they directed her later decissions, how her parents and sister play a roll in her life, how her heart has responded to so many changes and transitions in life. EVERY life. No, its not 'all about Margaret.' Yes, it is about the heart that is within us all. Do get this book, buy an extra copy for a friend, and just read it with an open mind. Think about what she's saying. It will bring about change in the way you see the sunrise and sunset, and all those events that occur in between, guaranteed.

I tried to give this book 5 stars and the Amazon system wouldn't let me.

This is the first book review I have ever written, but I am an avid reader. I can read 2-3 books a day sometimes. I don't remember the last time I read a book this great. It's laugh-out-loud funny. Not just a polite little chuckle -- I mean laughing until you are gasping for air.

I don't know many people who would not relate to this book. We are all too busy and we don't take the time to think about why we are here and what we are doing as opposed to what we really want to do. Margaret leads you through the process of re-thinking your talents and goals, but without the didactic prose that characterizes many other works. Prepare to be shaken from your lethargy --- it is a dynamic, life-changing book. It is also very engaging. It's not a suspense book but it is a real page-turner; it's hard to avoid reading it in one sitting.

My best friend, unlike me, is a person who seldom reads, but has read this one three times, and still can't put it down. There is just a lot to think about here. I believe this could easily become a Christian classic. But I think anyone would benefit from it and enjoy reading it, whether Christian or not. It's not filled with churchy gobbledygook. It is a much-needed breath of fresh air. It is full of life, joy, and warmth.

P.S. Read Margaret's "With New Eyes," too -- it's also wonderful.

To sum things up before I begin - I Loved This Book!

How much? I bought two extra copies for friends before I was halfway thought it!

Coming Up For Air is Margaret Becker's latest book, and by far her best. Her first effort With New Eyes was pretty good, but felt awkward at times. I felt like she was trying to hard to use complicated language to describe what might have been better served by a few simple words.

Not a problem in this book. Here Becker let's her hair down, opens up about an awful lot and in the process has written a book that I believe will become a classic. If you are struggling with where you life is going, or the pressures of our modern lifestyle, or are simple wondering "Is that all there is?" then this is the book for you!

About 10 years ago Margaret Becker would probably have been thought to have achieved the American Dream. A hit Christian artist, who traveled the world, a role model to many, she seemed to almost have it all (she was - and still is - single so to all those out there who think you can't be happy unless married, that would have been one strike against her!).

But she wasn't satisifed with her life. She wasn't depressed or facing a major crisis, just had a nagging sense that something wasn't quite right, something was missing, or maybe needed to go missing?

Either way she finally acted, took an entire month off and spent it in the dead of winter on the Florida coast alone. Through journal entries, stories and flashbacks, Margaret tells the story of how this became a seminal event in her life.

Since that day so much has changed in her, and it all flows from what happened that chilly month on the beach.

One of the ways I know if I'm reading a good book is if I don't want to put it down, but do so anyway to spend time thinking about what it's saying to me. I read this book in just a few days, but tried not to hurry, spending a lot of time in thought.

So much time in fact that I was way behind in my sermon prep - and I wasn't even worried about it! Now that's quite a powerful effect for one little paperback to have!

Like the lessons you'll find in this book, God came through and my sermon came together nicely. No hassle, no stress, just relaxing into the all sufficient presence of Christ, He worked through me to handle it all.

All I can say is that you really ought to read this book! It's available everywhere, really cheap through Amazon's used books sellers - get it and let it roll through your soul.

Another sign of a great book is one I plan on reading again, and putting into practice. Which is exactly what I'm going to do with this one.

Thank you Margaret Becker where ever you are - I owe you a lot more than one now!
