Definition and meaning:Disciple, Discipleship During Jesus' earthly . Jewish disciples would follow their master around, often literally imitating him.

Definition and meaning:Disciple, Discipleship During Jesus' earthly ministry, and during the days of the early church, the term that was used most Following God is understood in a metaphorical sense of walking in the ways of God. Personal Commitment to Jesus. During Jesus' earthly ministry the disciple was to "follow" Jesus, an allegiance to his person regarded as the decisive act, whether a literal or figurative attachment. The goal of Jewish disciples was someday to become masters, or rabbis, themselves, and to have their own disciples who would follow them.

But there is something magnetic and supernatural in true joy in the midst of suffering.

Scripture contains many responses to suffering-from lament and endurance to grief and cries for vindication. But there is something magnetic and supernatural in true joy in the midst of suffering. Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, not a false emotion manufactured by pretending things are fine.

I love this devotion. There's some questions that are asked that seriously make me go deeper in my walk with Christ. The passages and reflective questions make me look at my walk and my state of faith and trust in Christ in a more critical way. Not in a way to tear me down but in a way that forces me to be honest and encourages me to keep going back to the Lord.

I have facilitated the study of this material in two different venues; small group home study, and in a Sunday school class. Either works as long as you don't get in a hurry.

Following God in Tough Times is not a study for the faint of heart. It will greatly disturb those of the "Name it and claim it; blab it and grab it" mindset. This study is based on real experience, real situations, and real application of biblical theology. It most assuredly will cause one to stop and think about their own pre-conceived notions of God. It will also lead them to see God as a loving father, who teaches His children through the
Word and reinforces that Word through experience. Lessons in this study may be hard to accept, but they are true to real discipleship. Real life. Real hardship. Real maturing in Jesus.

If you are not ready to face some unpleasant truths about yourself, and how God uses those truths to bring you into maturity in Him, then maybe this study isn't for you. But if you want truth, are ready to face the consequences of accepting the truth, and truly want to grow and mature in your faith and relationship with Jesus, then this study may just be for you.

I give this study my highest recommendation, and hope to teach it again soon.
