John Kay is 'both a first-class economist and an excellent writer' (Financial Times). He is a visiting professor at the London School of Economics, a Fellow of St John's College, Oxford and director of several public companies. He contributes a weekly column to the Financial Times. He is the author of many books including Obliquity and Other People's Money both published by Profile Books.

John Kay is one of Britain's leading economists. He is the only professor of management to receive the academic distinction of Fellowship of the British Academy. He has been a professor at the London Business School and the University of Oxford, and is currently a visiting professor at the London School of Economics. A frequent writer, lecturer, and broadcaster, he contributes a weekly column to the Financial Times.

He has been a fellow of St John's College, Oxford, since 1970. Born in Edinburgh, Kay was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh University, and Nuffield College, Oxford. He lectured in economics at Oxford from 1971 to 1978.

His interests encompass both business strategy and public policy. His latest book, The Long and the Short of It, was published in January 2009. He was born and educated in Scotland, at the Royal High School, Edinburgh, and at Edinburgh University before going to Nuffield College, Oxford, as a graduate student. Since then he has been a professor at the London Business School and the University of Oxford, and is currently a visiting Professor at the London School of Economics. He was the first director of Oxford University’s Said Business School. In 1986 he founded London Economics, a consulting business, of which he was executive chairman until 1996.
