This is great for anyone starting into Management who hasn't worked in a field of problem solving prior. I found some of the advice to be rather pedantic, and the motivational writing style can wear on you. You're still reading? Wow! You're doing super duper great!! Keep it up!

I definitely gleaned some helpful insight, but overall it seems like a lot of common sense that perhaps my career had already afforded me.

I would have paid many times this book's price if I could have bought it 35 years ago! Having this information would have saved me a lot of pain.

This book seems to be written for the exact opposite type of individual than it is advertised for. I tend to OVER think, agonize over decisions and not act quickly enough, so I was motivated to read this book and speed up my process to be more efficient. I thought this book would teach me how to more quickly and confidently make decisions, but instead it breaks the process down into something similar to what I already do, which is quite time-consuming. There are several places in the book where the author adamantly cautions "STOP!" or "Slow Down," so I'm not sure why he titled the book "Think Fast!" Certainly there are impulsive people who would benefit from this approach, but it is not what the book promises to deliver.

This book contains simple, straight-forward and effective steps for dealing with critical situations, and managing daily problems in business or personal life.

Instead of losing your head, stop, take the time out and write down all of your concerns. List each of your concerns on a separate line. Assign priority to each item on the list and then pick the right-road for your concern.

Identify which thinking skill you need to resolve each concern: (1) Do you need to make a decision? (2) Do you need to find the cause of the problem? or (3) Do you need to make it happen?

Then learn how to effectively execute each one of these skills, how to consistently and accurately make good decisions; how to solve problems, and how to plan effectively.

To make a good decision, (1) know purpose for that decision, (2) establish criteria by deciding which factors are negotiable and which are non-negotiable, (3) compare each option to your criteria and not one option to another, and (4) assess the risks.

To solve problems, (1) state the problem, (2) gather the facts, (3) compare, (4) look for differences or changes and (5) verify your conclusions.

To plan effectively, (1) state your objective, (2) develop an action plan, (3) list foreseeable problems and opportunities, (3) define how to prevent and facilitate, (4) create plan B, (5) create trigger alerts, and (6) update your action plan.

The book contains a bonus chapter on innovation.

The author has clearly explained each step and offered examples, and then you are encouraged to follow the steps by applying them to your own situation.

The material in this book is presented systematically and exceptionally well.

This book provides a simple, concise yet well structured framework that leads readers to solve their daily problems step by step, type by type. It resembles much the material used for training workshop. It can certainly benefit those who, despite contraints in time and other resources, want their first bite of some professional means to improve their thinking and productivity. Also, I like those quotes in the first page of each chapter, particularly the following in Chapter 2: "You wouldn't fire a gun without aiming, would you? So, why would we act without thinking. - Chuck Gallozzi". In short, recommended!

Business leadership is more challenging now than ever before, due to hyper-competition, rapidly changing technology, and a raft of emerging players from every corner of the globe. Companies are being pressured to keep changing their game in order to survive and thrive, but the evidence reveals that most companies are not responding well to these new demands.

Past approaches to leadership development appear to have failed, leaving a serious shortage of effective leaders for today's dynamic environment. Best-selling author and organizational expert Guy Hale, in "ThinkFast," begins to fill this vacuum by providing an easy-to-adopt, personal development system that addresses one of the most basic and crucial skills required for leading: effective thinking on the go.

Putting oneself on the line by making a decision requires courage and confidence because decisions imply taking responsibility, assuming accountability, and being open to criticism and failure. To gain the confidence (and overcome any fear) needed for effective decision-making requires skill and practice. "ThinkFast" provides a new way to make consistent, well-thought out decisions, in record time. And to make it easy for all, this new process comes complete with "how to" templates, and real life examples.

Although accurate thinking is the most frequently used of core leadership skills, Guy knows well that decision-making alone is not sufficient. Confident, clear, problem-solving and planning skills are also critical, especially in today's fast-paced, highly competitive environment. And Guy delivers. He gives the reader excellent, new tools and templates for fast, accurate problem-solving and planning as well.

Guy's bonus chapter on "Innovation," tucked way in the back of the book, is a useful extra once a reader has mastered the core leadership skills so excellently covered in the book. I look forward with hope as he fulfills his promise of writing a book on innovation.

The "ThinkFast" approach can be personalized and adapted to anyone's timetable. The book is excellent for novices aspiring to leadership and for more experienced leaders for skill improvement. With years of general management and start-up experience, often responsible for turning around corporate divisions and entire companies, I took for granted my decision-making style until this book. I was reminded of steps I often overlook and am now implementing them to insure consistency.

Guy has masterfully set a new standard for understanding, identifying, and developing key skills necessary for leadership. This book is "must have" for those who have an interest in leadership or in advancing their leadership skills in today's fast-paced and complex world.
