I find Bill Griffeth likable on Nightly Business Report, where he occasionally subs for the hosts. I'm pretty sure this book won't be updated. Why?
1) People who are serious about pursuing financial prosperity already know these ten steps:
[Here we go!] Set financial goals, budget your money, make an investment plan, use funds to invest (mutual funds then, exchange-traded funds now), manage and shed debt, plan for retirement, consider your home for its investment impact, buy insurance, make a will and perhaps a trust, save for college, and review regularly.
2) People who need to plan financially won't change because they read this book.
3) Enough of the details have changed that the book needs updating. For instance, the "diskette" is missing and you'd have no place to put it, there is no website, and Griffeth isn't really an expert on any of these steps, he's an "award-winning (TV and cable) anchor."
Still, there is a takeaway here: As Griffeth shares in his book, you can be in the financial services industry and still not attend to one or all of these financial issues. In fact, we could have fun running a survey and seeing what % of our peers haven't attended to each of these steps. Of course, there are plenty of surveys like that out there, but the most important one is the one that takes place in each of our own families.
Which step do you need to address or review right now?
