Franny K. Stein, Mad Scientist.

Franny K.

Franny K Stein is. If you're looking for a book series that has actual science in it, we haven't really come across any of that. But it's obvious the character loves learning, animals, and science in general. She just goes about it a little differently than her classmates. This first book is also about trying to fit in with her peers, which I think is a great topic for kids this age.

Please be warned, this is not a normal Franny K Stein story book. This is an activity book. It is filled with activities and science projects. There's nothing wrong with that, they are actually quite fun, but I was not aware of that fact when I purchased it online. We opened it, expecting another story. My daughter did, however, enjoy the activities and especially the tattoos!

I thought I was actually buying a book the students in my students could read, but it was not story book.

Fantastic
  • Marad
My daughter read all of the Dear Dumb Diary books by Benton, and has since moved on to the Franny K Stein series. She enjoys anything by Jim Benton. If your kids like the Wimpy Kid books, they will probably like Dear Dumb Diary & Franny K Stein.

I teach 4th and 5th grades and my students love the Franny K Stein books. They are a nice break from the required reading at their grade level. Most can read the books in a couple of days. I believe in any book that encourages students to read. My students actually fight over who gets to check them out. I only gave it four stars because I do believe that educationally there are better books available.
  • Rishason
I bought my daughter a group of books to read this summer. She chose this one first and devoured it. She loved it and loves the Franny K. Stein series.
  • Manazar
My son requested these for his third grade classroom. The kids love the humor in them.
This is an activity book, although you can't get that from the title. We purchased it thinking it was a reading book. The other activity books say "activity books". This is also. They need to change how it is listed.
