This is more than a counting book... This book transports kids to another world and unlocks their imagination. The images are GREAT and very true to real life animals in the sea. I feel it would motivate kids to want to learn more about science particularly biology and aquariums. The following scenes are included:

- On the Farm.
- On Safari - obviously Africa.
- In the Desert - appears to be Arizona.
- In the Arctic.
- In the Wood - appear to be England or Europe.
- In the Ocean - contains corals so probably tropical. This image is not included in the 1001 Things to Spot in the Sea.
- In the Rainforest - appears to be South American.
- In the Garden - could be nearly anywhere in North America and Possibly Europe... wherever there are starlings.
- In the Outback - obviously Australia.
- In the Swamp - possibly Florida?.
- In the Mountains - possibly Asia where the pikas live.
- By the Sea - possibly the Alaskan Coastline where puffins live.
- Children's Farm - petting zoo with even camels and peacocks.

Usage: Count the animals and objects shown on the edge of the picture. Find the artist drawing the scene in each picture. After completing the entire book, find the 12 other creatures listed on page 30. Find the other 12 animals from only a close up image of an important part of their identification like a horn shape or stripes.

Overall, I believe kids are going to enjoy looking at the images even more than counting the objects in them.

The UsBorne books are great. We have 3-4 and the kids go over them - again, and again... and again.

Beautiful and educational. Great book! Teaches counting by finding each set of objects. I am always concerned about books being age appropriate. This is prefect for both of my preschoolers, my children love his series.

Each section features a beautiful scene filled with a number of animals. Your child's vocabulary will grow quickly - the book differeniates between cows and calves, for example. It pictures a great variety of animals, not just the animals you normally see featured in books. I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend this for children 2 and up.

Really great book for young children
Our son loved the 1001 Monsters to Spot book, so we were looking for something similar. After reading all the reviews, I went with this one and it was a big hit (though I think the Monsters one is a bit more challenging and cuter...but he loves both of them)
