A Magical Christmas book. Claire Freedman, Gail Yerrill (Illustrator)

A Magical Christmas book. Claire Freedman, Gail Yerrill (Illustrator). The mice are out gathering holly, as fat snowfakes swirl everywhere. First of all a great children’s book! It shows what Christmas is all about- Staying indoors keeping warm, building snowmen, going outdoors to play snowballs etc. The illustration by Gail Yerril is so snug and and cosy (I loved the glitter on each page!) It was lovely how it was a poem, Claire Freedman is a spectacular children’s author!

Freedman, Claire; Yerrill, Gail. Little Mouse wants to know what makes Christmas magic. One by one, the other mice tell Little Mouse what they love most about Christmas.

Cute book, though the School Library Journal reviewer above is correct -- the writing is undistinguished. I'd give it four stars for the illustrations, but the publisher, Tiger Tales, gets zero. The pages are ornamented with dozens of (unnecessary) glue-on sparkly patches, and they began falling out as soon as we opened the book, leaving blank areas in the pictures. Think about it: That's actually quite upsetting for little ones, for whom a bedtime story is a real world they trustingly enter into. It's also damn messy. We had to stop after a few pages.

I think it's safe to say that if defective adhesive was used on our copy, it was used on the copy you're considering buying, too. I've notified the publisher. Here's hoping they have more ethics than quality control, and will follow through and do the right thing: recall the entire print run.

There should be some worse punishment than a negative review for making a child cry on Christmas eve.

I have been borrowing this book from the library for the last three years at Christmas. I finally decided to buy my own copy to insure I continue the tradition of reading this book with my kids for many more Christmases to come. I love the artwork and the textured glitter around the lights and fire. It really sets it apart from other books because of its sparkle. Each page is a member of little mouse's family's favorite part about Christmas. In whole, each mouse's reason for loving Christmas really tells the whole feeling and spirit of the season. It helps me to teach my boys that there is more to Christmas than just presents.

It is a Christmas delight!

I gave my one granddaughter one for Christmas and wanted to give my other granddaughter the same book. When I got the book all the glitter was falling of the pages. Really I was sad that I couldn't give her the same book.

This book is among my favorites for the Christmas season. If you want a secular book that is not about Santa (rare - I know), then this is the book for you!

Like: The illustrations are both cheerful and cozy, with glitter bedazzling the pages and the text formatted in scrapbook style. Written in rhyme, Claire Freedman captures all the little delights of Christmas in descriptions that make you almost relive them, and the concluding message of love really hits home.

Dislike: The rhythm of the rhyme is thrown off in a couple of places, though these were minor glitches that do not overshadow the overall quality of the book.

This is a wonderful book for Christmas!
As an adult, I actually bought this book for myself~~I fell in love with it the first time when I saw it in the bookstore!
It has very cute and sparkling illustrations-- colorful and adorable! Not to mention that the text and message in the book is very heartwarming. It sparks your imagination, and you can immerse yourself in its magic as you move across the pages....
And it made me feel very happy (and warm) every time when I read the book!

I ordered this book for my young son, not really knowing what a wonderful story I was getting. The first time I read this to him, I welled up with tears when finishing the last page. "The magic is love, Little Mouse." I secretly could not wait for the holidays to roll around so we could get this one back out(and even cheated a bit by reading it a few times before Halloween!)

llustrations are sweet and cute.

I like it so much I'm ordering a few hard cover copies as gifts this year.
My kids (3yrs and 4months) both love this book, and so do I. The pictures are cute and are decorated with glitter, which both kids seem to enjoy. The story is simple and cute. There aren't a lot of pages, so it is a quick read.
