Flippy, the free-spirited tadpole, is taking a road trip with his friends, Toadpole, Crawdaddy, Duke, Halimagator . Way back in 2001, my wife Dawn and I were driving across the country from Los Angeles to Baton Rouge, La. for her to meet my family.

Flippy, the free-spirited tadpole, is taking a road trip with his friends, Toadpole, Crawdaddy, Duke, Halimagator, and Eartha. And it was on this road trip home that we came up with the idea for Flippy the amazing tadpole who can turn into anything! From the very beginning we have wanted to write "Flippy Goes on a Road Trippy.

There are some fine things about this book aimed at the 2-4 year old set and...some things that just don't sit right with me. First, the fine:

+ "Through Flippy's Eyes" squarely aims at sharing and sharpening a positive outlook on life; you don't come across this too often in books for this age range
+ The colors and pictures are bright, vibrant, and clearly distinct making them attractive to the toddler crowd
+ the rhyme scheme and wordplay is fun to read aloud

And now the things that've got me a little mixed up...

- Flippy is a tadpole...that often looks like a worm or maybe a snake...and I'm thinking some adults are going to think that he looks like something else that comes from a man (sorry to say this but at least the tots won't be bothered by this)....he's kind of an amorphous lead for a book
- The name Flippy...? Why?
- As his name is used playfully in the book it also starts to sound like a stand-in for another unfortunate word (again, at least the tots won't get this); consider "When it's time to pick up toys, be a Flippy cleaning fool...Knowing you'll make a mess again, makes Flippy cleaning cool!". I'm sorry to say that the world-weary, jaded adult in me couldn't help but hear something else there

So I think that you're tot is bound to like this book but some unintentional parallels might sidetrack the adult reading this. I'd try checking this out through the library first to see if it's to your liking.

Again, I am one of the coauthors of this series of books. "Through Flippy's Eyes" is our third and final installment in the board book trilogy. It promotes the "glass is half full" way of looking at things...and even starts out with Flippy the amazing tadpole diving into a half glass of water and taking you on a wonderful journey of looking at the world with a positive perspective. It teaches the seasons of the year, the importance of safety, and that even cleaning up your room, washing your hair, or brushing your teeth can be fun! "When you have to wash your hair, squirt some Flippy Shampoo Gooey...Then in the mirror...stare...at your Flippy Shampoo Dooey." "Look at this or look at that...Just play with what you see. The world has gifts at every turn...More smiles for you and me." Enjoy! john mese

My nieces and I LOVE the entire Flippy series. This book, in particular, is all about viewing the world in a positive way and seeing the fun and good around you. "The world has gifts at every turn" - could not be a more positive message for kids. Can't recommend these books highly enough!!
