In spite of his background, Taylor wanted California and New Mexico to be admitted as free states, therefore stemming the spread of slavery. They tied the knot in 1835, long before the Civil War broke out. Taylor reportedly approved of the marriage, but it didn't last long - Sarah died just three months after the wedding from either malaria or yellow fever at the young age of 21. 8. As far as it goes this seems just OK. It is a mostly rosy history of a man who wasn't terribly admirable for a General. There is very little about the context of the time in which he lived. I didn't find inaccuracies, but lots of omissions. But for young people a rosy view of our history is what they usually get.
