Because the pillow that I dream on Is the threshold of a kingdom Is the threshold of a world where I'm with you. It's a dark and snowy secret And it has to do with heaven And what looks like sleep is really hot pursuit

Because the pillow that I dream on Is the threshold of a kingdom Is the threshold of a world where I'm with you. It's a dark and snowy secret And it has to do with heaven And what looks like sleep is really hot pursuit. I hold your picture in my mind It makes me warm when I am cold Gets me up and it makes me walk It makes me question what I'm told.

Inspiration for Girls on the Threshold of Change"Before I go to sleep each nightBefore I turn off every lightLet me put away my fearsLet me brush away the tears"The heartfelt prayers in this luminous volume were originally written for the comfort and inspiration of a twelve-year-old girl named Julia. The author of these prayers is Julia's mother, who wrote them because she was troubled that she and her daughter no longer talked as much as they used to. So each night, she left a verse on Julia's pillow. Julia shared them with her younger sister and with her friends, and the prayers moved outward in ever-widening circles. Now everyone can enjoy and meditate upon these simple supplications, whose words, feelings, and perspective are those of a girl growing into womanhood. Nearly one hundred and fifty prayers encourage girls to look inward for the strength to heal hurts, calm fears, and reconcile with family and friends. They present the values of self-reliance and confidence, celebrating the gift of life and the unique pleasure and challenges of being a girl. Each prayer is a loving act of faith, and together they provide a safe and private space in which a girl can simply be and grow.

I bought this book to give to my neice who is going through typical thirteen year old problems at school and at home. I read some of the prayers before I gave it to her, and copied a few down like the one on page 178 about keeping your spirit strong and being more than what you seem. Then I gave her the book. A few weeks later I asked her how she liked it. She told me that when she read the prayers she felt "better" about herself. She reads a prayer every monring. My sister told me that she even takes the book with her to school. My sister bought a copy for herself and for me and our mother. Even though we live in different parts of the country, the book has brought us together because we talk about which prayer works best for us. I can't explain what these prayers do because i'm not good with words, and I've never done this before but I think it is because the prayers do something inside of you when you read them. THey work on your feelings so you have the confidence to change your life for the better. I think this book is a miracle.
This book should be on the bedside table of every teenage girl, no, every girl and woman in the country. It is the most valuable tool for building self esteem I have ever read. The poems are more than just lovely words. They actually make you feel good about yourself after reading them. Many make you cry. I bought this book first for a niece, then for myself even though I am a grown woman, and, finally two more copies for my two daughters who have gone off to college. And that's just for starters. I haven't felt this way about a book in a long time because it's more than a book, it's love. A mother's love for her daughter. The poems are very simple, written in ways that all of us understand and can relate to. Don't be put off by the simplicity, though, because the poems stay with you. They are inspirational because they touch deep inside to feelings you didn't remember you had. What else can I say except, Mothers, buy this book! And if you go to her web site, you can send her a description of a problem and she'll send you a prayer.
