Horning's straightforward text suits the innocently sweet intentions of her main character and makes the unlikely plotline believable (would co-workers in 2005 really embrace one another quite so blithely?)

Horning's straightforward text suits the innocently sweet intentions of her main character and makes the unlikely plotline believable (would co-workers in 2005 really embrace one another quite so blithely?). Gorbachev's illustrations are likewise well suited to the story's retro feel. Characters are anthropomorphized animals and settings are cheerily idealized in watercolor and pen-and-ink illustrations reminiscent of Wallace Tripp and Richard Scarry. This predictable story has an old-fashioned feel. Owen, a furry-looking pig-child wants to send his far-off grandmother a hug for her birthday. His mother takes him to the local post office, where he offers a hug to an employee.

Such a cute story about a hug sent to Grandma. A wonderful present to my daughter's grandparents who live far enough away that visits are not frequent. And my daughter loves reading it because she gets a giant hug every time it gets passed on.

This heartwarming story will make you want to hug everyone you love (and maybe even the mailman!)
Sandra Horning has written a delightful story about a boy who wants to send a hug to his grandma, and does so through an ever-extending cast of charming animals, each of whom delivers the hug in the course of their everyday jobs. Charming illustrations complement the story and provide a delightful wink to the reader at the end. So go get your hug and share it with a little reader!!

I love this book south I bought it for both of my sons' classrooms, for a few friends, and for my sister-in-law, who works for the post office! It's well written, well illustrated and just so cute.
