A young monster is afraid of the dark because he believes that a person may be lurking under the bed or in a corner. com User, August 6, 2004. A delightful reversal of the et syndrome, this story is about a young monster who is afraid that children are hiding in the dark. With illustrations that are reminiscent of "Where the Wild Things Are," this book helps address the nature of childhood fears. Just remember, anything that might be lurking in your closet is probably more afraid of you than you are of it. 0.

Of course Kay Chorao's rendition of the imagined people consists of fair-haired moppets so cuddly they couldn't scare a flea, and her monster is essentially cute despite the protruding fangs and pointed ears. Little Clyde's parents entice him to bed with the news that ""A long time ago, monsters and people made a deal. Monsters don't scare people and people don't scare monsters""-and with the reminder that he had never heard of any boys or girls frightened by a monster, or vice versa. Books by Barbara Williams.

I wish this book were easier to find. Such a wonderful children’s book about a little monster who is afraid of the children he thinks are hiding in his closet and under his bed.

Years ago my children and I actually met Robert L. Crowe in a small town school library and of course fell instantly in love with "Clyde Monster." I was so happy and amazed to find copies all these years later so I can share it with my grandchildren! A wonderful, surprising story, with a great message about facing fears and not jumping to conclusions and trying to see "conflicts" or worries from different perceptions.

I love this book. I gave it to my nephews decades ago. I was delighted to find a copy on Amazon. It is a great book to make children unafraid and reevaluate their perspectives. The illustrations are very nice!

I got this book to help my kids not be afraid of monsters under their beds. The book is a little long for my younger kids but my 7 year old is really enjoying reading it to the younger ones. It's a cute idea of a story though...and we don't have as many monsters at night either (not sure if it's a result of kids getting older or the story).

My favorite story to read to little kids. Unfortunately it is out of print. The illustrations are great and the message is wonderful. A must for any child afraid of the dark.

and it arrived in very good condition.

My daughter's favorite book from many years ago. What a find!
This is an old story about a young monster who is afraid to go to bed because people might be hiding in his room. His parens assure him that no people are out to harm him. I would recommend this story for parents and teachers of young children.
