The Quiet American is a 1955 novel by English author Graham Greene. Narrated in the first person by journalist Thomas Fowler, the novel depicts the breakdown of French colonialism in Vietnam and early American involvement in the Vietnam War. A subplot concerns a love triangle between Fowler, an American CIA agent named Alden Pyle, and Phuong, a young Vietnamese woman.

Dear Rene and Phuong, I have asked permission to dedicate this book to you not only in memory of the happy evenings I have spent with you in Saigon over the last five years, but also because I have quite shamelessly borrowed the location of your flat to house one of my characters, and your name, Phuong, for the convenience of readers because it is simple, beautiful. and easy to pronounce, which is not true of all your country-women's names. I'll be with you at latest by ten," and when midnight had struck I couldn't stay quiet any longer and went down into the street.

Adrienne Rich's new poems are important because they come so close to achieving the dream they're all at least partly about. I bought this particular collection because it was highly recommended in the books by artist/author/poet Tee Corinne in & Pleasure', & Body of Love' and & of the Woman Who loved Sex' - she particularly noted & Floating Poem, Unnumbered' from the selection "Twenty-One Love Poems".

14 the quiet american. He has like four teeth in his mouth because he never had Dental and he was in an explosion. But it’s still very inspiring to talk to him, because he always says what he means (unlike Lenny and his friends).

Eleven-year-old Samantha is on a quest for magic. Something powerful enough to bring her mother back, if only for a few seconds. Since her mother died a few months ago, Sammy has been careful to keep all her memories and sadness tucked safely inside her, in the quiet. Now Aunt Constance has come to live with Sammy and her father. She may look like Sammy’s mom, but Aunt Constance is odd. She has a special gift that helps her find lost people and things. There’s one thing, though, that Aunt Constance has never been able to find: something that belonged to Sammy’s mother. So she asks Sammy to help her. It will take all Sammy’s courage to complete this quest, but she’s willing to risk everything if it means feeling the joy of being close to her mother one more time.
