Wanda is a little witch girl setting off for her first day at school-by broomstick. by Mark Sperring & illustrated by Kate Pope & Liz Pope. She's a traditional sort of witch with a black, star-spangled dress and pointed hat, but somehow she ends up in a classroom where she doesn't fit in with the other little girls. Wanda finds herself in Miss Dewdrop's School with a collection of frilly fairy girls who use their wands instead of broomsticks to create magic. The teacher and the fairy girls are kind, and no one but Wanda seems to notice that she is different, so the little witch decides to stick with her unusual school placement.

A quirky, entertaining back-to-school treat that will help little ones get over those first day jitters. They seems to be vivid watercolrs that any child will enjoy looking closely at I would recommend this book for any child who has misgivings about the first day of school - or even for a child who's wholeheartedly looking forward to it. It will bring about many good discussions between parent and child.

Mark Ruffalo revealed he packed on a whopping 30 pounds to play one of his twin characters in HBO's upcoming series I Know This Much Is True. The 52-year-old-actor plays both Dominick and Thomas Birdsey in the upcoming TV adaptation of Wally Lamb's 1998 novel, following the parallel lives of the brothers. And while the pair are identical twins, their significant weight difference required Ruffalo to bulk up to shoot his scenes as brother Thomas. The novel was most notably known for being named part of Oprah's Book Club in June 1998, with the story now being brought to life on HBO.

The First Days of Spring (1929) is a painting by the Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí. This is probably the most famous example of Dalí's early surrealist work. The setting for this image is an expansive, smooth gray plane

The First Days of Spring (1929) is a painting by the Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí. The setting for this image is an expansive, smooth gray plane. It is elevated on the right and steps down to a lower level at the left. Clustered in the middle of this space is a variety of strange and colorful surrealist images.

Having a pope and a pope emeritus is not working out for the Catholic Church, DW's Christoph Strack writes. However, the book's cover appears to tell a story of its own: Ratzinger is named as Benedict XVI and shown in papal garb.

"Remember to be wicked at school," Wanda's mum calls as she waves her goodbye. "But not too wicked!" "I'll try," Wanda promises. Wanda is a sweet little witch who is off to her first day at school. But when she arrives she can't help feeling that something isn't quite right. All the other pupils are fairies! When she tells her teacher that she doesn't think she's supposed to be there her teacher says everybody feels like that on their first day. A wonderful book about learning that it doesn't matter how different you look - you'll be loved whoever you are. Even if you are a witch at a fairy school!

My daughters favorite book. She has had this book since she was very little and she is almost 10 now and it is still her favorite. She is a great reader and reads way higher reading level than this by now but she still reads this book most nights. Very cute book that doesn't make me want to stab myself after reading it 5000 times. She only wishes there was a book about the fairy that accidentally went to witch school.
