Hugh Lupton tells listeners that these are tales "to be read aloud," and the collection reveals his skills as a storyteller who understands the power of rhythm and repetition. His perfectly paced narration allows children to follow along and join in with well-loved phrases, and a jaunty tune dividing the tales invites listeners to dance and snap their fingers, underscoring the music of the stories themselves. These tales are classics and will appeal to a wide range of ages.

Delight in reading these quirky tales aloud to the under-five crowd. Each of the seven stories imparts an important lesson while using humor and lovable characters to keep listeners engaged. This is one book my husband and I can stand to read over and over. Our toddler loves it. We cannot figure out why but for six months it has been the top choice to read and study the pictures. Although some stories are a little much for a toddler, he likes the sweeter ones anyways, so we are fine with reading it to him.
The table of contents is great as there are pictures by the titles so he can choose which story we read. He did not like the CD at all and cried - the man's voice is kind of creepy on it.
A wonderful book to add to any collection.

Update: Now that my son is 3 1/2 he still loves the stories and has come to love the stories on CD. In fact, the 'voice' has grown on me too and we really love the stories! It has nice transition music between stories.

Love, love, love the stories! Barefoot Books always does a fantastic job. This was a purchase for a road trip with our 2.5 year-old, and well worth it. She likes listening to the stories in the car, and has started requesting the book for bedtime. I would give it five stars except that the mix is off in the audio: you have to crank the volume to hear the narrator, and then the flute music about deafens you in between each story.

My nieces loves this book. I like it had a lot of different stories they could enjoy

I plan to read these to my grandsons. The stories are short and familiar.

I read this collection to the 4, and 5 year olds in the daycare and they really love it. They often ask me about it.

Barefoot books have been a staple in our house since our son was born and we also love their podcasts. This was a perfect gift for his fourth birthday. He knows many of the stories already but there are news ones from a variety of cultures. Great CD to listen to in the morning or for quiet time or in the car.
This is a great book. My 4 y.o. son loves the stories, and the illustrations. A bonus is that it also comes with a CD, and once he discovered that mommy is chopped liver! So I pop in the CD and he reads along. We really love this book.
