Book 1 of 6 in the Draw and Write Through History Series.

My kids enjoyed learning to draw the Greek warriors and the Pharos. It is a good addition to our history curriculum, but the book itself only covers 4 topics and only has a few drawings for each topic. I wish it was a little longer. I liked the first book better. One person found this helpful.

For example, in the Creation Through Jonah book, the section on Egypt starts with a colored page featuring a pyramid, mummy, and sphinx. The following pages have separate step-by-step drawing instructions (1-3 pages per drawing) for each of those items. The information about Egypt closes the section, written in cursive so students have a model to copy their handwriting after. If you are looking for a just drawing guide for your children to use to enhance their historical studies, this is a good resource. Unlike the "Draw Write Now" books that my children used when they were younger, this "Draw and Write Through History" book has multiple drawings for one copy work page. Writing passages in this particular book total 4. The writing is in cursive, one page long and is perfect for upper primary grades. Likewise, drawings are a little more detailed and geared toward students in 3rd grade and above. For me however, it was a disappointment as I was hoping to supplement once a week with a drawing and dictation/copy work assignment. This would be an excellent resource if it had more writing passages.

My son loves to draw, so this was a good supplement to our history lessons. He likes to draw while he listens to me read. I just wish there were more things to draw! I'd love to see something like this lined up with the chapters in Story of the World - I know that would be a significantly longer book, but it would be handy for us.

I also like the summaries of history. My 2nd graders aren't quite ready to copy them out yet, since we haven't started cursive, but I think we'll use it later.

A great series for homeschools or as a supplement to regular school.

Each of the 5 sections has several pictures to draw with step by step instructions. Then a page of cursive copy work. The pictures are very detailed and beautiful. The copy work is a short historical report.
The books are written by a pastor's wife and the copy work has some Christian references. Other books in the series include biblical history.

Works great with the classical approach, Well Trained Mind, unit study, Story of the World, History Odyssey and Charlotte Mason methods as well as any other methods where you want to combine history, handwriting, and art.

This has a bibliography in the back so you could easily make a history unit or unit study out of it.

Sections include: The Vikings, Middle Ages, China/Japan, and Renaissance. Color illustrations. 60+ pages.

More books in the series are:

Draw and Write Through History (Creation through Jonah, Volume 1)
Draw and Write Through History: Greece and Rome (#2)
The Vikings, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance
Draw Write Now, Book 3: Native Americans, North America, Pilgrims (Draw-Write-Now)- The World of the 1800's

Love it. I bought this to go along with our Sonlight Curriculum covering world history. For my two boys, ages 6 and 8, the copywork and drawing instruction are just perfect. They love to draw, and the lessons are very detailed. I will definitely order the other books for the different periods of history.

Fun books, I feel like they need a little more substance, though. My kids' drawing skills are improving with this book, however,

I think this would work better with an older student, someone in middle school or more.

Not as exciting as I thought it would be.Hope to be able to use it for notebooks w/ notes for middle school students but a little primary.
