Her 1958 novel The Planet Savers introduced the planet of Darkover, which became the setting of a popular series by Bradley and other authors. The Darkover milieu is a science fantasy fictional world, with science fiction as well as fantasy overtones: Darkover is a lost human colony where psi powers developed to an unusual degree, and work like magic, while technology has regressed to a more-or-less medieval stage  .

DAW books, 1979) by Marion Zimmer Bradley and the Friends of Darkover does just that. It's a collection of short stories that covers nearly every aspect of Darkover's history. And it shows that if they can become professionally publishable, then so can we there's no point any more in saying 'oh, I'm ordinary, I could never become a writer' because these stories once had ordinary people for authors. After Darkover became popular both from Bradley's published books and among fanwriters, Bradley began to accept submissions from fan and professional authors for a series of Darkover anthologies published by DAW, beginning with The Keeper's Price (1980).

This anthology contains stories by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Marion Zimmer Bradley is probably best known for her Darkover novels and her best-selling Arthurian novel THE MISTS OF AVALON. Domains of Darkover (The Friends of Darkover Present). Marion Zimmer Bradley.

The Terran colony on the planet Darkover faces imminent destruction by a plague of the deadly Trailmen's Fever. The only hope is to develop a serum in time, but this requires the cooperation of the elusive native Trailmen, the brilliant parasitologist Dr. Jay Allison, and his split personality.

Marion Zimmer Bradley rarely disappoints. In this instance, it's a Darkover novel that doesn't require too much foreknowledge of Darkover. Indeed, this could be a gateway short story that gets the reader interested in Darkover.

The Darkover series blends psionics with science fiction if I remember correctly. The native Darkover inhabitants in possession of the psionics and the Terrans (I think, I haven't read much Darkover) largely in possession of advanced technology.

In any case, it's inexpensive (if not free), and a novella so it's not a long read. If you don't like it, you haven't wasted much time.

Not one of the best in this world, but a good story. It's an interesting introduction to several key characters that cone later

Bradley is the master at blending sci-fi and fantasy, a great read. A look into the mind of a split personality.

As are all of the Darkover books that I have read over last 50 or so years, this one riveted me and was immersion for me. I can imagine it all. This planet and these people come to life on the pages be it paper or electronic. I reread my first one over and over again. The bloody sun. I am discovering more books either I haven't read or forgot. So rediscovery. Timelines blur and spatial relations aren't as clear to me. I'd love to have big graphic of timeline and names as a true history to map out all the books and characters. Is there such a thing? Thank you fir another good read. Karen Hamilton. Maryland

Likely the best description of the Trailmen in the series. The Darkover concept wasn't fully developed at the time of this writing, but much of the ideas are here: advanced mental abilities, a benevolent feudal system, and multiple intelligent species sharing a planet, sometimes rather shakily.

Pretty interesting story. Good read if you like sci-fi.
As usual in the writing is very good, if somewhat dated, in attitude due I suspect in part to being somewhat older and of the generation that considered sexuality a facet of human experience to be a private and non-discussed matter. Still the author remains a talented practitioner of the writing art.
