Always an excellent read. You should get his book on kindness too. Elegant but simply expressed, the author really is unique and what he says seems to strike chords with everyone who reads him.

Ferrucci's book is lovely and compelling. I am a Psychosynthesis clinical psychologist and the healing properties of beauty are an important part of work with clients.

Beautiful! Really don't mean this to be cliche - but really - this was a beautiful book that had me reflecting and looking around me assured that the next beautiful thing was just out of my attention span. Fantastic book.

I was recommended to read this book by a new friend. We were having what I refer to as our first phone date and he recommended the book in response to what he noticed in my positive attitude. I try to see something optimistic in most frustrating events - I am not always successful, but I try. My travel agent would probably be the best witness to this quality of mine as I am often calling her when something has gone wrong. I will get there some how - no reason to freak out - besides, I am inside, have access to food and a bathroom not to mention the internet, and at times most precious private anonymity.

One part of the book that I really related to was the gradual discovery of beauty. The author shares a story of a Balsamic Vinegar shop where the walls were lined with beautiful bottles, colors, and scents. The shop owner recommended that he not purchase the most expensive highest quality vinegars because he hadn't trained his pallet yet to know the different levels of beauty. The vinegar would be too strong - too much. I often feel like this when I am discovering something new - I can't do too much at once - though I am obsessive and tend to immerse myself quickly in the new thing. For example, I will learn of a new band - buy everything they have ever done and listen to it on repeat. But, it isn't until I hear one song at a time shuffled into a playlist that I can really hear the lyrics and fall in love with the new band.

Beauty is also temporary next consistently connecting all things and emotions. Another powerful image what that of nature always winning. No matter what - nature reminds you that it is there. That in itself is beautiful. For example, think of flowers (some people might call them weeds) that grow in cracks of sidewalks, or recently I watched a whole gaggle of baby frogs in a pond in the center of a bustling campus. He gives an example of a family of tiny mushrooms growing on the door frame of his bathroom. Nature and the beauty of nature is not concerned with our buildings, calendars, and agenda items.

I also really liked the part about contemplation and memory being creative. The concept of contemplation isn't something to check off the to do list, but to sit in and be with. Contemplation is about slowly and timelessly finding yourself without limitations of time and being with whatever surrounds you. I feel that suburban yoga habits are trying to make time for contemplation inside of my hectic schedule - anything counts - and when I think about times that time has stopped - I wasn't wearing a matching work out outfit. Time most recently stopped when I turned a corner (or better said a curve) to a deer family crossing the road. They sensed no danger and patiently coxed all of the young ones along. Really added some perspective on what is actually important - the airlines losing my luggage whisked away and I accepted the moment the parent deer seemed to thank me for allowing her to do her job. This leads to the memory piece.

On an NPR RadioLab on Memory I recently heard for the first time that the architype analogy of memory like a archive vault isn't accurate. This was reaffirmed here. Memory is an active act of creation from things and emotions and dreams and ideas. I don't know if the mama dear really thanked me, but I sure have a video in my head that I can replay when I am stressed out that immediately gives me perspective and I can move back into a contemplative relaxed state. Real or not - it works and it is beautiful.

I interviewed this author for [...]. This book is enormously powerful and I felt changed me in some way. It opened my eyes to something I feel has been missing in my life and my family's life, not intentionally of course, but accidentally what we need in our life is beauty: beauty in our home, our environment, our backyard. This book alerted me and reminded me of how much beauty has healed me in the past, and how much a family needs it. It is brilliantly written.
Here is a link to my interview with Mr. Ferrucci, a true genius!

What is beauty? A mysterious feeling incapable of description? A concept best proved through mathematical formula? Or maybe it is as Piero Ferrucci (author of The Power of Kindness, Inevitable Grace and What We May Be) presents in his new book Beauty and the Soul, an innate power easily accessible yet underutilized in bringing about healing, growth and peace.

Drawing from Ferrucci's experience as a psychotherapist as well as academic and scientific studies, the book focuses on beauty and the value of living an aesthetic life - claiming both may instill confidence, speed recovery from trauma or illness and provide insight into the futility of materialism and war. While the book beautifully explores these benefits and offers hope and inspiration, it displays some weakness in credibility, relying somewhat on the reader to accept certain theories on faith as opposed to scientific evidence. Nevertheless, the book is an engaging and enjoyable read.

Inner beauty is reflected in how we age-sadly I see some using apps or surgery to look young but they aren't beautiful. How sad that is! You just look pathetic.

Beauty comes from a life of love, kindness, warmth and compassion. It's a rare thing. This book touches on the power of beauty everywhere.
