Clodagh McKenna is a chef, author of cookbooks, columnist and television presenter from Ireland. She has done cooking demonstrations on The Rachael Ray Show, hosted several television series and writes columns for the Evening Standard. In Clodagh’s Irish Food Trails, a television series consisting of 13 episodes aimed at the American market, she traveled across Ireland to places like Skelligs rock, Dingle's sea caves and Fastnet Rock's lighthouse

Both a cookbook and a culinary tour of Ireland, this guide celebrates the diversity and quality of local food and shows how the experience of shopping at farmers' markets can transform everyday cooking. More than 100 recipes range from new takes on traditional Irish favorites to dishes with more Mediterranean flavors, always emphasizing seasonality, local produce, and fresh ingredients—the return to slow food. A guide to the best farmers' markets in each region of Ireland offers profiles of some of the farmers and producers bringing their food sensations to market. As well as using ingredients available at the market, recipes also re-create some of the breads, cakes, and chutneys available, like Gallic Kitchen's organic steak pies and Giana Ferguson's baked cheese with winter herbs—so even those who can't visit the markets can still enjoy a taste of Ireland. Recipes for everyday cooking—Fried Mackerel and Cork Beef Stew—are joined by more unusual offerings that reflect the wider range of produce available at farmers' markets, such as Roast Pheasant with Apple and Sweet Geranium Stew.

We have to preface this review by admitting that we have such a girl crush on Clodagh McKenna because she is so genuine, honest, light-hearted and enthusiastic. We first encountered her on Create TV and were delighted to discover that she's written a book which is a wonderful love song to the farmers whose nutritious wares populate the countryside markets throughout Ireland. The recipes in this book are interwoven with information about the farmers market vendors themselves and the enticing array of recipe suggestions, nicely illustrated with gorgeous color photography, will want to make you run right out to the farmer's market nearest your own neck of the woods, if not book passage as soon as possible to explore Ireland's rich food history yourself! Thanks, Clodagh, for a lovely introduction to simple yet delicious Irish fare.
