Junjou Romantica or “Pure Romance”, which has many alternate titles, is a yaoi manga series by Shungiko Nakamura that focuses on three story lines: the main couple Usagi (famous author) and Misaki (college student), whose stormy romance comprises the majority of the books, and two other couples that provide ongoing side stories titled: “Junjo Egoist” and “Junjo Terrorist”. Junjo Egoist is about Kamijou Hiroki (college professor) and Kusama Nowaki (med-student), and Junjo Terrorist is a slow burn romance between Miyagi (college professor) and his very young ex brother-in-law Shinobu (high school student). The books have branched into several Drama-CDs, a manga series running in Asuka Ciel, and a 24 episode anime series, as well as a light novel series titled "Junai Romantica" that’s run in The Ruby magazine.
I watched the shows first (Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi and Junjou Romantica), then found the mangas to read. Both have engrossing plots and provide an in-depth portrait of what publishing in the manga world is like, as I was informed, quite true to form. So, since I find publishing fascinating, I really enjoyed these series, carefully absorbing every word. But I can’t decide which if either appeals to me more. The only thing I will say is I was drawn to certain couples. In Junjou Romantica my favourite relationship was Hiro-san (Kamijou) and Nowaki (Kusama). No matter the turbulence throughout their lengthy courtship, these intensely romantic men manage to stay together. To a lesser degree I also favoured Usagi and Misaki.
With the two series and separate movie there's a little something for everyone, even a relationship between an older man and a confused teenager, which honestly, was very sweet and tastefully done, at least in the anime series. When Shinobu gave his big, heart-felt speech to Miyagi on the beach (hotel room in the manga Vol. 7) I cried. It reminded me of my own youth and the first man I was in love with at the tender age of sixteen. I even sympathized with the older male characters, some of which had become battering rams for their younger, overly emotional counterparts. Anyway, you get the gist. The mangas are just as enthralling with the crazy humour, intense drama and unique art, but more sexually explicit. My favourite part is the private dialogue between the couples. Each character has his own voice, which gives him a distinct personality. This is an awesome series worth reading.

Back Cover:
It's been a full year since Usami and Misaki first got together, and what a year it's been! When Takahiro shows up again, will the embers of Usami's love flare up again? And a messy family dispute has Usami's cousin begging him to marry her, with Misaki caught in the middle! It looks like Usami's father wants Misaki out of the picture for good, but will their love be strong enough to fight it?

My Review:
Shungiku Nakamura's manga continues to please. This installment of Junjo Romantica focuses mainly on Misaki and Usagi. There also is short story involving Hiro and Usagi when they were younger and a short Junjo Terrorist section.
I gave this volume five stars because 1) the story is entertaining, 2) the art is pleasing to the eye and easy to follow, 3) the characters are interesting and well thought out, 4) there are plenty of explicit scenes for yaoi fans to enjoy, and 5) overall this is an enjoyable manga which is hard to put down.

Can't wait until the next volume comes out!

It's Christmastime, in the Junjou Romantica world! Misaki is having trouble picking out the perfect gift for his lover, but no worries! He figures out the best gift suited for Akihiko...just one problem. Will he see his lover on Christmas eve to give it to him?

Terrorist and Minimum are touched on in this volume, as well. Akihiko and Hiroki's past is quite adorable, but kids will be kids. And what to kids do? They get upset with each other.

For poor Shinobu, things are really beginning to weigh on him. When he sees Miyagi with a beautiful woman at the library, his mind immediately runs wild. Will they be able to save their relationship? Well, I can't tell you that. You have to buy the book!

Such a cute story! It seems to get better and better with each book! A majority of this book is about Misaki and Usagi. (Junjo Romantica) About 20 pages are of Usagi and Hiroki when they were young.(Junjo Minimum) 20 or so pages of Miyagi and Shinobu. (Junjo Terrorist) No Nowaki/Hiroki (Junjo Egoist) in this one!

I was so happy when I received this latest volume of Junjo Romantica. I have all of the other volumes and this one wasn't disappointing. Misaki and Usagi-san finally seem to be in a real relationship. Christmas goes well but then Usagi-san's iritating cousin shows up and of course embarassing and troublesome events happen to Misaki. Will Misaki get to stay with Usagi-san, I hope to find out in the next volume. A cameo from Hiroki and Nowaki is humorous and the chapter with Shinobu and Miyagi was very cute. Of course the sex was as steamy as ever and as always never disappointing. A good read for any yaoi fan!
