The queen of true crime wrote dozens of books, but Ann Rule’s masterpiece is her particularly harrowing debut. In The Stranger Beside Me, Rule describes her personal relationship with a co-worker whom she later realizes is a serial killer: the handsome and charming-and prolific-murderer Ted Bundy. 1 IN COLD BLOOD by Truman Capote. At the top of any best of true crime list must be the book that revolutionized the genre.

Green River, Running Red: The Real Story of the Green River Killer-America's Deadliest Serial Murderer. Jensen is actually writing about his own father, Tom Jensen, a detective in the King County Sheriff’s Office in Washington state. My recommendation for this book/graphic novel comes from the ability of Jeff to tell the story in a way that illustrates the common denominator between altruists and psychopaths: empathy.

Former Oklahoma judge takes you on a wild journey through the seething hellhole of "The Strip," just across the border from Texas. Bacon tells of his hair-raising experiences with the dangerous and remorseless people that crossed his path in the '60s. This stranger-than-fiction memoir will draw you in and leave you laughing and shaking your head.

I'm about half way through this book and I can already rate it 5 stars. It is very interesting as well as entertaining. Although it helps to be from Oklahoma, like myself, to relate with some of the humor. It's not even close to necessary. Mr. Bacon takes you on a very personal journey ranging from horrific crime scenes, to adventures with very interesting characters he shares his life with. He is quite the story teller and whether some are exaggerated or completely false, they're stories to be remembered to say the least. If my review needs to be furthered when I finish the book I'll do so.

I really enjoyed this book. Having been in law enforcement for many years I can certainly relate. Although of course the DA's I've worked with are not anywhere near as involved in the "hands on" part of the job.

Interesting stories that give insight to a culture that is almost unbelievable until I lived by the Red River.
The author is an unlikable character.

Because I knew Ken, when we both lived in Tulsa Oklahoma, I could just hear his voice in retelling is stories. That really brought them to life for me. Also my step dad was in law enforcement so I could really relate.
