This book is an interesting insight to everyday life in WW2 England. Great examples of "make-do-and-mend" projects. A nice addition to my WW2 book collection.

A reprint of a book first published in 1940, 1000 THINGS TO DO 1940 is a fascinating text from an era of 'make do and mend,' when readers were invited to make and prepare simple things using a bare minimum of materials. With a strong patriotic as well as a practical edge, this book was primarily designed for homemakers charged with the responsibility of looking after their offspring, as well as trying to provide as 'normal' an environment as possible in extreme circumstances. The book was produced before the Blitz started on most of Britain's major cities - rendering the availability of materials even more scarce than before - but it still recommends the kind of thrift that seems part of a different world these days.
