This book is as good as we are likely to get on the subject in English. For Pacific Theater aerophiles, it's a must-have. --Barrett Tillman, author of Whirlwind

Vivid account of Japanese navy fighter units in combatContains biographies of all pilots claiming ace statusIncludes photos of planes like the Zero fighter and the pilots who flew them

  • Simple
This book was well written and extremely informative but very little personal accounts of fighter
pilots combat experiences, which I have the most interest.
  • Shaktizragore
bought this for a steal , but information is hear say and unreliable to japanese records and allied air craft losses.
  • Eigeni
Very interesting book
  • Vudomuro
This book is actually a rewrite of a similar book with addition historical input by an American historian. The original book was heavily biased and poorly written. The input by Christopher Chant helps some, but it is still not and accurate history of the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Force fighter operations. It is still a rambling list of almost unverified claims of victory claims by individual pilots. It is pure 'warrior worship.'

The only redeeming portions are the added background histories of movements, battles and unit identification. If you are looking for a history of the IJNAF during World War II, you still have to wait.
