A cross between travel literature and parenting guide, it’s easy reading and fun with interesting observations on the (admittedly entirely stereotypical) ‘French style of parenting’ – from how they avoid ‘helicoptering’ over their children, to how they get them to sit through long meals – without being a prescriptive ‘how to’ guide.

At first I had presumed this book to be a little too obvious, stating parenting variables and solutions that seemed to be too apparent in modern-day society,

But as it went on the book delved into nearly every possible variable I could think of. Answering occurrences in parent-hood that I had forgot had occurred in the past and offered a solution to the problem I had wish I had known before hand.

I am fascinated at how well many of these techniques work, and just by being aware of the situation and understanding the reasoning behind it, it makes playing the roll of a parent a lot less like a Forensic scientist.

For having low expectations for this guide, it turned out very well - and I have learned a lot from the read.

This could have been an excellent book, if the author trimmed down the fat a little bit. A lot of melodramatic writing, with lots of unnecessary stuff. The book is written more like a folklore rather than an ultimate reference book. If you are shopping for a serious parenting book, look elsewhere.

author writes "There's no job description for the job of parent." Exactly that is the point, we are intuitive parents, what we need is a little correction here and there. Rather than taking parenting as an inherent nature of every animal parent, author writes it like something arrived on earth from an alien planet. The book can be good but only after serious revisions.
