In the fourth thriller in Brad Taylor’s New York Times bestselling Pike Logan series, the Taskforce must stop a suicide bomber intent on triggering a global epidemic. Invented by nature but genetically manipulated by man, a mutation of a deadly virus has fallen into the wrong hands. Angered by sanctions placed against its nuclear program, a rogue state is determined to release it. Their chosen method: one of the Black Widows—female suicide terrorists of Chechen descent with a deadly reputation for slaughter that rivals any other group. The only thing standing in the Black Widow’s way is the Taskforce, an extra-legal counterterrorism unit. Racing against time to prevent a global pandemic, Taskforce operator Pike Logan and his partner Jennifer Cahill follow the trail across Southeast Asia to the United States, only to learn that the enemy they face may not be the enemy they should fear. The Widow’s Strike ties together government-sanctioned terrorist activities, nefarious multinational conglomerates, and frighteningly plausible science. Infused with authenticity from Brad Taylor’s decades of service as a Delta Force commander, it’s an explosive ride alongside America’s counterterrorism operators that will leave readers breathless.

Brad Taylor has once more created an excellent story around a biological attack on the US. Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill continue to evolve and their character arcs intertwine more than I've seen in other novels. There are a number of twists and surprises, starting with 'Knuckles' being caught, thrown into a Thai jail, then left there by our government. Unfortunately not an unrealistic scenario, there is a reason for a NOCs 'denieability'. Pulling Pike and Jennifer into helping as part of their cover and Pike's reaction fall in line with his character. I particularly enjoy Pike's pushing the envelope, his commander's support/frustration, and the bureaucratic fighting as the story unfolds. The surprise in the novel is Jennifer who in the series has become more of an equal and is now seen at least by the team she usually works with as an operator in her own right. This was an excellent read from start to finish!

How many ways can terrorists kill and keep on giving the gift of horror? In this case, a young Chechen woman, angry beyond belief at the murderous Russians that killed so many indiscriminately in her village, including her fiance, is recruited to be a martyr. A Black Widow is a woman whose husband or fiance has been killed by Muslim haters. These women are out for blood and they are very successful in their quest for vengeance. She believes she will martyr herself with explosives, and yes, but that's not all she will will be wearing. A deadly virus, with a 70% mortality rate is the method of destruction.

I don't know how thriller authors come up with their story ideas but Mr. Taylor came up with a doozy for this one. I almost felt like I was there with the way he writes the details of the given circumstances. This one had terrorist going to from Singapore to Hong Kong to Macau to New York and finally off the coast of Florida on a cruise ship. The Taskforce has a huge shake up and members are forced to show their true loyalty. Even the President has to deal with all the actions swirling around him while dealing with the a bad case of the flu. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, more than I have any other in a long time. Fantastic story, great suspense and just plain hard to put down. Keep it up Brad!

I had the first Pike Logan book on my wish list for quite a while. I finally got around to reading it a few months ago and really liked it. Book 2, I liked it even more and LOVED book 3! Factoring in all of Pike's (and Jennifers) issues, I believe book 3 will go down as the best in the series. Now, with that being said, I purposely didn't set the bar too high when I started reading it. I went into just looking forward to the next chapter of Pike/Taskforce being thrown into a world of crap and seeing how they got the stink off! ;-) I was not disappointed! It was a really fun (mostly) non stop roller coaster ride! If you have read the 1st 3 books and like them, you will enjoy this book. If you do read it, make sure you read the acknowledgments at the end. Without giving anything away (I hope), the author gives us readers a little insight to how he built the Pike Logan character.

Happy reading!

I like Brad Taylor. He is in the same genre as Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, etc. The action adventure, bigger than life, hero character. I decided once I had found him I would try to go back and start at the beginning of the series. Pike Logan is a Jack Reacher sort of guy, retired military, bad ass, doesn't really like the rules sort of guy. This story is about a suicide bomber, a female, thus the Black Widow. She is being controlled by an obsessed Iranian and chased by the Taskforce (Pike and his crew). Taylor, unlike many authors in this style, is a retired military officer. His books are written in a more "clipped" military language than some others that spend a good deal of time painting pictures for the reader. It also appears that his trust in politics is minimal at best. If you like adventure, twist and turns, you will enjoy this book as well as the others by Mr. Taylor.

Brad Taylor has really come into his own as a writer in this genre. He is using skills taught in military perhaps because it is not just one dimensional, not just action, not just mission mode, but rather has many threads he has learned to carry along and do it well. The plot turns are nice, the slowly forming side stories work well and are woven in and not just dropped in, and the characters have dimensions, which is unusual in this form of story.
As usual, the bad guys (male or female) are complex and not just robots. As usual, our heroes are well trained but things go wrong in the field and they sometimes recover well and sometimes not so well.
Makes for a fun read and keep you interested the whole time. Highly recommended, although starting from the 1st book is important to understand the characters and how things got as they did.

I have quite a few authors in this genre that I avidly follow and Brad Taylor is in my top 5 favorite authors. The richness in which he writes the characters, it almost makes you feel like you know them as real people. The characters all have depth and are relateable on some level, even the ones that are transient. I love the action and the ops but I also love the ribbing that goes on between the team members because that is what happens in real life. If this is a new author for you, start with "One Rough Man" and go from there. I was hooked then and after "The Widow's Strike" Brad Taylor is now one of my top 5 favorite authors.
I'm becoming addicted to these Pike Logan books. Like the last one I could not put it down. I recommend it.
