I met Gabriel Angel in 1956. The year Arthur Miller married Marilyn Monroe. Forget the direct Atlantic crossing, carrying workers and immigrants to a cold place they’ve never seen. I could have held her hand through Martinique, Las Palmas, Tenerife. I could have put my arm around her waist through the straits of Gibraltar.

Ten years ago, seventeen year old Lesley Allen gave into the charismatic older man, Cade Randall, and slept w/ him. He knew it was her first time, and he promised he wouldn't hurt her. The next day her world falls apart as he refuses to wed Lesley and dashes. Lesley is kicked out of her home and must fend for herself. She informs Cade later that she is pregnant and he sends his shark or an attorney to deal w/ her. She was paid and informed via the attorney to never contact Cade again! He wants her to go away quietly, take care of the problem herself, and he doesn't even want the child to have his name. Now Cade Randall is back in Lesley's life looking to buy the magazine that her fiancé is selling and wondering where is child is. Of course, Lesley doesn't want anything to do with the playboy and fibs a bit and soon Cade wants his money back PLUS interest or he will reveal things to her fiancé and possibly ruin her life!

**SPOILERS**

Cade came across as s self-centered, selfish jerk who could care less about what anyone else wanted let alone an unborn child. It never stated how old Cade was, but it was remarked that it would have been considered statutory rape. It made me think older, wiser, knows better than to do things unsuited and w/ a minor, obviously NOT. I still don't know why he didn't want to acknowledge the child. How could that have hurt him? This threat of a forced marriage didn't make a lot of sense to me either because the person doing the threatening would have pushed it because they cared about money!

After Cade finds out about Lesley's secret he wants his money back PLUS interest and he seems overly concerned about the amount of time she puts in at work. He thinks she should take some time to smell the roses! When he discovers her circumstances after their one night and the consequences of that he seemed concerned, but I kept thinking his shark would have known and shared that w/ him! Cade went out of his way to know a lot about the fiancé/owner of the magazine that he plans on purchasing, but he NEVER put much effort into finding out things about Lesley! There were strings left when the story ended and things that didn't make sense either! (one - the manuscript - there was a copy in the hands of the editor.)

I think Cade wanted Lesley to revert back to how she was at the age of 17 - worshipping at the feet of the mighty Cade Randall! However, Lesley wasn't like that, she played hard to get and I was rooting for her. Then for some reason she lost it and gave in to him and I mean GAVE in to HIM!! All her so called dreams and thoughts on what a woman of "today" should be was pushed aside for that fabulous wick of his that has been in more pots than he can count!! Seriously Lesley gave up all of herself for that happy stick and I never saw any love!

From back cover:
Lesley Allen didn't want Jay, her fiance, to sell the magazine she was editor of. Still less did she want him to sell it to Cade Randall. Because Cade had hurt her once-and she had no intention of letting him do so again. But Jay needed the money and Cade was the only buyer. Only he wouldn't buy unless she agreed to sign a contract with him-a contract that had more to do with being at home with him than working in his office...

It would be impossible to believe that there is a true "deadline for love;" it would be like saying there is a deadline for religion. But with the focus today on youthful love, people might believe there would be a deadline.
