What happens when you mix three young women, fun and Hawaii? You get THE FLING. Kate Prescott has a mission; she is going to cheer up her cousin, Patti, after she was dumped at the altar. Her uncle was going to surprise the couple with a honeymoon in Hawaii but he tells Kate to take her instead. More like sisters, Kate is going to see that Patti unwinds and takes her mind off her lousy former fiancee.

They soon depart and meet a cheerful personality on the plane. Her name is Cherry and she intends to snag a millionaire. Not everything goes as planned and Cherry ends up rooming with them for the next ten days. But what a wonderful ten days for everyone.

Jack McKenna intends on taking over his father's business. He has been summoned to one of his father's resorts and thinks he is going to have all his wishes met. Instead, if he can complete the next ten days working in the trenches and not give himself away, his father will retire. He will be known as Jack Cameron and here is where it gets a little tricky. He meets Kate and falls for her fast. Initially he does his utmost to keep her and her friends from knowing who he really is but most of the staff is aware he is James McKenna's son. You'll need to ignore that part.

The chemistry is good, the sex is intense, and they both want more but are still hesitant. After all, each knows they only have ten days. Kate has a few TSTL moments but Jack isn't letting go. Unknown to him his father wants his son to fall in love and does his best to help the love match succeed.

THE FLING has some very goofy humorous moments. I am normally not a big fan of 'chick lit' romances because there is usually too much profanity for my taste and little communication. Here, there were only a few times someone swore and, for the most part, all the characters talked. As in real life not everyone has closure and this may bother some readers. I was actually looking forward to a sequel but I couldn't locate another book. Even though I am giving it four stars I am going to list this as a 'Keeper'. Give this romance a try, you will be glad you did. I am.

Kate Prescott feels bad for her cousin Patti, jilted by her fiancé Roger Geisler while five hundred guests sat in the church. After everyone leaves, Patti's father asks Kate to do him a favor by taking his depressed daughter on her "honeymoon" since everything is paid for two to spend ten days in Maui at the Kalani Resort Hotel and Spa. On the plane from the Midwest, they meet Cherry, a good time showgirl, who plans to take her two apprentices under her wings while each seeks a millionaire.

Jack McKenna is elated because, after years of hard work in the family business, his father has put him in charge of the jewel, the Kalani Resort Hotel and Spa. However, his father springs one last test to insure Jack understands people as much as he does business. For the next two weeks, Jack will work undercover as a bartender at the hotel to gain a more balanced perspective.

When Jack and Kate meet, the attraction between them is hotter than the tropics. However, he keeps his identity secret and she seeks a millionaire not a bartender, making anything more than a FLING unlikely.

Readers will think of the movie How To Marry a Millionaire especially with Cherry so Marilyn Monroe like in energy and humor. The amusing plot provides escapist merriment for readers as Jack and Kate struggle with intense desire. Fans of romantic romps will expect Elda Minger to provide a story or two starring the other good time girls formerly seeking a millionaire, but now wanting what Kate has.

Finally I have read a book that was worth it.
I have read so many of these romance novels and lately none of them have either suprised me or made me honestly laugh when they were supposed to be funny,or even care for the characters. My thoughts were more:" Who cares, move on."
I have been deeply disappointed in what these popular authors are putting out lately. Who are they kidding? No thoughts and affords are put into their stories anymore.
But this book has it all. Humor/Laughter, sizzle, fun plot and really great scenery. All in all believeable.
The author does not linger too long on the problmes or situation each character is having or going through but enough to make it fun and believeable. I am so happy to have read this book and recommend it very much. Sure in the end the story in these romance novels is always the same. Boy meets girl and sex, romance and a happy end. But why not? She at least put enough spin and humor into the story that you can buy into it and enjoy the ride. And the author is really good in setting the scenery and mood.
SO, enjoy this book. Again...no brainer but these books are not there to teach though to entertain us and allow us to dream on.
I was really ready to book myself a ticket to Mauii... ;-)

**** This lively, quick paced and humorous novel will appeal to a broad spectrum of fans. There is a strong "chick lit" element focusing on the women and their relationships, yet the romance is in no way lessened by this. Jack is in no way a beta male, as is usually the case with a women's fiction book. Some readers might be bothered that the sexual relationship started so quickly between two strangers. One major flaw in the book is though that despite the fact that Kate was always trying to collect recipes, none are provided at the back of the book, and you will be craving chocolate chip cookies before the end of THE FLING. ****
