Grant's Movie and Tira: One Act Plays. 0571098096 (ISBN13: 9780571098095). Michael Weller studied music composition at Brandeis University, then worked as a jazz pianist before taking his graduate degree in theater at the University of Manchester, England. His best-known plays are Moonchildren, Fishing, Loose Ends and Spoils Of War. His films include Hair and Ragtime and a teleplay of Spoils of War.
It is full of wonderful monologues and scenes for acting students. Michael Weller is not a flashy playwright, and though he has had great success over the years, I can't think of a "signature" style to his work
It is full of wonderful monologues and scenes for acting students. Michael Weller is not a flashy playwright, and though he has had great success over the years, I can't think of a "signature" style to his work. That is his strength. Moonchildren" is one of the best plays about Vietnam (from the viewpoint of college students in the mid-60s). At Home/Abroad" is about a couple realizing the limitations of their marriage, carried to a further degree by "Loose Ends".

My heartfelt thanks are due to Michael T. Ryan, Director of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and Jennifer B. Lee, Curator of the Performing Arts Collection, at Columbia University who went out of their way to offer much needed assistance.
A natural one-act that takes place in a motel room (all you need is a bed and a door) and features two men and one woman. A very challenging and smart piece, with enough raw emotion and plot to keep the audience captivated. Check it out at DPS (dramatists. com) or check out the movie version with Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. It's a really, really good play.
