This is a brutal and honest description of War, set in WWI Austria. The book consists of several different vignettes of various aspects of the war machine, from the trenches to the rearward command. Not just facts, but an deeply emotional investigation into the human cost of battle. The author did a wonderful and horrific job of conveying the fear, anger, injustice and sheer futility of it all.

I haven't ever written a review before but felt bound to write something about this amazing piece of writing. Definitely worth reading, FIVE STARS!!!
