His new purchase looked even better than he had remembered.

Stranger within the Gates Mass Market Paperback – November 12, 1977. by Mira Stables (Author). Mira Stables has written another great Regency! Both hero and heroine are likable and unique, and the romance is believable and satisfying. If you like more mature Regency characters rather than near teens, you'll enjoy this novel. There's plenty of tension with a nasty villain, and the whole plot makes sense. The minor characters, as with Stables other novels, are well rounded and build a complete world the reader wants to live in.

Very good period language and a bit of fun with local dialect . Interesting backstories, slightly "lame" denouement so far as the villian is concerned (and slightly lame "villainous plot "), but an unusual heroine and engaging story for all that.
  • Qusicam
Very good story , characters and just enough POV to enhance than detract. Main couple and relationship was developed beautifully.
  • Deeroman
Not exactly in the regency period, but definitely in the regency style. An excellent romance where the relationship between adults develops over time.

I found it difficult to put this romance down. This is considerably different than the run of the mill attempts at Regency romance. The H and h are both adults with considerable life experience. How they meet, and develop a friendship is adult. How they realize love is also adult. The villain simply causes them to draw closer together to foil his plans, and they get their HEA. It is a good , enjoyable story and engrossing. I also enjoy the other stories by Mira Stables.
  • Coiron
This was a very interesting story with a different twist than most historical romances where there are strong minded women.
