This used copy had some notes on the last couple of pages, but they were fantastic - it was obviously someone's menu for a book club discussion about this book, and it fits the theme of the book perfectly.

The book has also been translated into German. The only Sci-Fi book I ever read was 'l, Robot' by Asimov which I chose because I had a used bookstore and wanted to read an example of each genre. This book Tales of the Black Widowers (The Black Widowers Isaac Asimov Tales of the Black Widowers is a collection of mystery short stories by American author Isaac Asimov, featuring his fictional club of mystery solvers, the Black Widowers. It was first published in hardcover by Doubleday in June 1974, and in paperback by the Fawcett Crest imprint of Ballantine Books in August 1976. I really enjoyed that book but left sci-fi to others. The acquisitive chuckle. Go, little book!-Early Sunday morning. Miss what?-The lullaby of Broadway. Yankee Doodle went to town. The curious omission. Canon EOS 5D Mark II. City.

There undoubtedly remain some dozens of repetitions that could bear revision, but I hate to introduce too many changes from the pristine originals. Would you forgive me, then, for permitting them to stay?

Henry, who was noiselessly taking up the dessert dishes, said, "I have an average knowledge of the plays of Shakespeare, sir, but I must admit that no appropriate verse occurs to m. Drake looked disappointed, but Avalon said, "Come on, Jim. Henry has done very well on past occasions but there's no need to feel that we are helpless without him. I flatter myself I know Shakespeare pretty well. I'm no novice, either," said Rubin. Then between the two of us, let's solve this. Suppose we consider Hamlet first.

This book is the first of six books that describe mysteries solved by a private men's club known as the Black Widowers. It is a collection of short stories, and is a "straight" mystery containing no science fiction. Each story involves the club members' knowledge of trivia.

Who doesn't love Henry the wonder waiter? If you are unfamiliar with this series, the books are comprised of short mystery stories. The story is told in the presence of the Black Widowers, an intellectuals' dinner club. in the end, it is Henry, the waiter, that inevitably solves the case. Most of the cases revolve around one or two specialized pieces of information that most readers would not casually know. In the end, the reader is entertained and learns something new. These stories were written in the early 1970's, so be prepared for some outdated technology. For those who have grown up alongside computers and cell phones, these stories will give you a glimpse into pre-web days. Enjoy!

Asimov 's FireWire is unbelievable. The stories in this book have stayed with me for many years. I guarantee that you'll find some of these stories unforgettable. If you can find the cassette version grabs it the voice is that of Isaaac Asimov himself and he does a truly wonderful job, a treasure to be found!

I originally bought this book in 1973. Since then, I have replaced it five times because I would lend or give it to friends. Also since then, I have lost track of the number of Asimov anthologies and "best of" editions that have been published, but IMHO this really is the best for its time. Perhaps at some point, this one will end up on Kindle, and I will have it in my ebook collection as well. However, I still enjoy the print version, and being able to toss it to a friend to expand its circulation. Included are some of Asimov's most memorable short stories, e.g., Nightfall, The Last Question, The Dying Night, The C-Chute, Mirror-Image, and many others. Also included is an introduction by Asimov that places each story in his career timeline.

This book collects a series of short stories in the mystery genre, rather than SF and I love them. They're a little bit formulaic, but the characters have such great personalities I don't care. I love the characters. This is the first in a series and it includes author notes after each short story to give a little insight into the writing process.

I wish all the black widowers stories would be re-issued into new editions (or kindle books), but in the meantime, I'll grab the used copies anytime I see them. This used copy had some notes on the last couple of pages, but they were fantastic - it was obviously someone's menu for a book club discussion about this book, and it fits the theme of the book perfectly. Loved it.

After reading through the first page of one of the short stories the binding of the book split in half. A neat break, but now i have two halves of one book. I spent decent money to read only one page. The intro to the story was great so far (The Last Question)

Thoroughly entertaining and intriguing stories. Some of my favorite mysteries.
This is a great collection by Isaac Asimov. When I read a short story by Asimov for the first time and learned about who he was, I couldn't wait to read more. This collection is just what I was looking for.
