Anne Underwood Grant's Best Work Yet ! By Thriftbooks. com User, February 27, 2001. VOICES IN THE SAND just hit our stores here and I picked it up because I found the cover frightening and intriguing.

Anne Underwood Grant's Best Work Yet ! By Thriftbooks. I followed Sydney Teague from Charlotte to Murrell's Inlet, which is very familiar territory to me. With wonderful description, this book kept me waiting and rushing as I read, unable to put it down. I found myself woven into the plot with Sydney, as she and old fiend, OC, set out to solve a murder in the swampy, spooky areas along the coastline. I thought I would spend the weekend reading it. I finished at 4 AM Saturday morning.

Series: Silver Dagger Mysteries. Grant mystery series, and it is also excellent. Once again, the feeling is that of a cozy mystery, but the cerebral development, low key writing style and lack of concentration on violence are deceiving, because in many ways, these mysteries are far from "cozies". For one thing, the author deals with some issues that traditional mysteries in the vein of Dame Agatha and her peers would not touch with a thousand foot pole.

I haven't read mysteries since Nancy Drew books as a kid. But I picked up Ms. Grant's Smoke Screen and now Voices in the Sand and I think she has me hooked. Voices in the Sand gave me the best of both worlds -- a beach book plus a murder-mystery. Ms. Grant's characters are believable, even the bad guys. Her heroine/hero are brave people without being superheroes. I loved the way the story moved, and I loved the way I can "see" the scenes down to someone's sock sliding down over his heel. Lots of visual imagery makes this story come alive, but one does not get bogged down by description. I thoroughly enjoy Anne Underwood Grant's style of writing.

I ordered this for my sister. She and I spent some time with the author over the summer of 2013 and I ordered all her books for her, as she is the reader, I am not, and Ann autographed them for her.

....This novel introduces the new, improved, and more likable Sydney Teague, a woman well aware of her addictions, but no longer brooding over them. Sydney does what she believes needs to be done. Thus she shows a moral strength and sense of duty that few people possess. This actually adds to the believability of the character, which in turn gives credence to of the well executed mystery. In VOICES IN THE SAND, Anne Underwood Grant has written a one sitting page-turner that charms the audience form start to finish.

Sydney Teague's adventure in this book has it all! The touches of history, romance, science, sport and evil make this mystery a great read. I could not put it down. I loved the descriptions of the geography, people, food and weather in this book. I was so inspired, I actually bugged my husband for a week to move to a beach town. Sydney is a woman who truly lives life. How often does a woman have the chance to win the trust and respect of a childhood crush, go on a dangerous adventure, in a beautiful place, preserve the past and save lives? Never. . . . . Well, I just did through the writing of Anne Grant.

I have purchased and read all of Grant's Sydney Teague Series, but this one is definately her best work yet. I will never visit the coast without thinking about this book and looking over my shoulder!!!

VOICES IN THE SAND just hit our stores here and I picked it up because I found the cover frightening and intriguing. I thought I would spend the weekend reading it. I finished at 4 AM Saturday morning. My, what a fast, rollercoaster of a ride this book is. Suspenseful and atmospheric, the SC coast stars in this one, although I really liked the Teague character and the grizzled ex-cop named O.C. I'd love to see it a movie!

the book was a little slow and confusing, maybe it was me but I just really never figured parts of it out.. as for the other parts it was okay..
