I became interested in Mr. Donnelly's books after a visit to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and the Buie Pottery Shop. There was a table of his books for sale and as I examined them the owner explained how Mr. Donnelly was a resident and would be in later if I would like to meet him. I bought the books but unfortunately, due to travel agenda restraints did not get to meet him. Someday, I will return and will wait to meet Mr. Donnelly and ask him to sign the books that I have enjoyed reading.
I am a big fan of the older John D McDonald's Travis McGee and Ed McBain's 43rd Precinct series and Mr Donnelly's Youngblood series has earned the same respect and adoration. Well written suspense that keeps a reader on the edge of their seat set in an area of the United States that I love and enjoy traveling with Mr Youngblood and his associates as they unravel the mysteries.

This book suffers the curse of the charmed hero. Meaning that wherever he goes, people are willing to answer his questions honestly, pretty women flirt with him and powerful men do favors for him. He's super rich, super smart, super connected, even tempered and physically fit. He's old friends with the town sherif, a TBI agent and FBI agent who all have nothing better to do with their days than help him out. It makes the book very level in tone without the ups and downs that missed clues, uncooperative witnesses or a personality flaw can provide. Also, I was bothered by his backstory. He's a Wall Street prodigy who just quits and becomes a p.i. on a whim. The author spends absolutely zero words explaining why or how he became so good. Amateurish and mediocre.

This book qualifies as a page turner that holds your interest from page 1 to the end, and you will go a long time between times of having as good a book in your hot little hands to read. I found myself slowing down at the end of the book before I realized why I was doing it; didn't want it to end. This makes us anxious for his next book to be published.
One additional reason "Three Deuces Down" was spell binding for me was that it is located in our part of the world, and the thinly veiled references to places in our mountains resonated on a personal level, therefore. Our Book Club will be enjoying this next season.

Learned of this author while on vacation a couple years ago and finally had time to read his first book. I found it entertaining with just the right amount of suspense, action, "love" and comedic parts. I plan to read the remaining books available by Keith Donnelly as soon as I can.

The author is from my area of Northeast TN which caught my attention. I like to support new local authors when the opportunity arises. He's written 2 novels in the Donald Youngblood series so started with the first one to check him out. The suspense caught hold of me almost from the very beginning and kept me through the end. Can't wait to read the second book in the series!

This was a very easy book to read and get "caught up in". If you like mysteries, I think you will like this author. After reading this book, I could not wait to start the others he has written. I am waiting, not too patiently, for his fourth book to come out for the Kindle.
I enjoyed this book so much and am now reading #2. I have troubles putting it down. I know east TN quite well so that is a plus. The author keeps the story moving along so there are no boring spots. Very interesting plot twists & turns. The cast of characters are so interesting that they become very real & you feel you know them. Can't wait to read the whole series.
