Wavering between fact and fiction, this novel, which Speight claims to be "the completely accurate" story of two sensational murders, succeeds as neither one. All the names, dates and places have been "fabricated" to protect the innocent, he says, and the ensuing lack of immediacy and bite is fatal. A 12-year-old girl is raped and murdered by 20-year-old ne'er-do-well Frank Jordan. The girl's family is devastated, especially her mother, Carol Rogers. When Jordan is acquitted "by reason of insanity," Carol shoots him to death in court.

The book itself was very good, but I read this on Kindle and it did not copy well. Anything that ended in -tly was changed to -dy, and any time the word "the" was used it was instead "die". I would not recommend getting this on Kindle. I would get the actual book.
  • Gigafish
I had forgotten that I'd seen a movie that told this story. The book was much better than the movie version. The reason I ordered this book was that I'd read about the author and wanted to try one of his books.
  • Steel balls
It is a great pity when a book is made almost unreadable by the number of typos and an almost total lack of proof reading or editing. It really is unfair on the author who I assume takes for granted that the publisher will at least,do this for him.

i got this for my mother for mother's day. We both watch the lifetime movie of it and we loved it, so i wanted to see on how she would like the book. It was different from the movie, but she like the book too.
  • Kashicage
The story was good and held my interest but there were literally hundreds, if not a thousand, editing mistakes which were irritating and made the novel difficult to focus on.
