Just as a wise man keeps away from mad dogs, so one should not make friends with evil men. -buddha.

I had worked with the FBI on busts before, and it was always the same. They talked, and you listened. Whitley pulled into the lot driving a black SUV with tinted windows. He looked ready for bear. I pointed at my car on the other side of the empty lot. Let’s take my vehicle, I said. It’s in the worst shape. Does that make a difference?.

I have always enjoyed reading James books , however this series knocks it out of the park.
Not only is the subject important , his explanation, and the writing of these stories is complete .
This series hits a new high point , thank you for your dedication.

I had to give this book a five. This author is an amazing storyteller. The story is intricately woven with extensive detail. Those details put you right in the detective's mind as he works to solve horrible crimes. Hard to put this book down.

James Swain seems to have hit his stride with his character of Jack Carpenter. Swain's original central character was Tony Valentine who used to figure out how the bad guys were skimming Las Vegas and I loved those books. Carpenter is into finding abducted children.

It was a specialty he honed as head of the Broward County Missing Persons Unit. Although no longer with the police, he has lost none of his touch in this regard as people seek his assistance when loved ones go missing.

His efforts to find a child in this instance opens many doors to other crimes and criminals and it would spoil the story to detail them here.

My best advice is to strap it on and settle in for a bumpy and sometimes wild ride as Jack Carpenter "does his thing." No lesser light than Lee Child terms this a non-stop nail biter which pretty much sums it up for me.

I'm enjoying this author's books so much that I've ordered a series. His writing style is quick, energetic and keeps you guessing.

This is a very good book but I like the author's Tony Valentine books and their rough-and-tumble casino settings better. However,"The Night Stalker" also features a rough-and-tumble guy, Jack Carpenter, who is caught up in the search for a kidnapped kid. Because of the subject matter, this book is more serious, but the lead character is no less driven and no less colorful than Valentine. Swain has become one of my favorite authors and anyone who reads this change-of-pace from the casino books will find it satisfying and enjoyable. Jack Carpenter is a character we'll be seeing more of, I'm certain.

Best thing he's written in several years.

I don't normally read fiction nor am I an avid reader. But I couldn't put this book down. I just find It amazing how someone can write a story so spellbinding. And it seems realistic although I know little about police work on missing persons. It also brings to light how perverted a few people are in our society, the phychopaths and sociopaths that our society has to deal with. Hats off to the many men and women who try to protect the rest of us from these perverts.
Read all 4 of the Jack Carpenter series, which I didn't see myself doing after the first part of the first book. It seemed a little gimmicky at first. The bottom line, however, was it kept my attention and the subsequent books were page turners.
