Master Snickups Cloak is a Medieval moral tale animated by the spirit of Poe and Burroughs. Ah, fond memories from childhood. Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 12 years ago. This, my friends, was my fav book from my childhood. Mom bought it for me and read it, getting too far through it to distract me and stop before she realized it wasn't the "Disney" drek. I cried buckets, but I loved it and read it again and again, and cried some more.

Alexander Louis Theroux (born 1939) is an American novelist and poet whose best known novel is perhaps Darconville's Cat (1981) which was selected by Anthony Burgess’s Ninety-Nine Novels: The Best in English since 1939 – A Personal Choice in 1984 and in Larry McCaffery’s 20th Century’s Greatest Hits. He published the fable, Master Snickup’s Cloak, which was illustrated by Brian Froud in 1979. That followed two other fables, The Schinocephalic Waif and The Wragby Cars with illustrations by Stan Washburn in 1975. In 1987 he published An Adultery, and his longest, most satirical novel Laura Warholic was published in 2007.

The imaginative artwork of Brian Froud illustrates this whimsical fable about two orphans, Master Snickup and the incredibly beautiul Superfecta, who grow up and are separated by an ugly squire's lascivious designs on the girl show more. It weaves a web of Gothic horror around a story of childhood love, tragically betrayed. Alexander Theroux creates a pageant of characters that wittily parodies 20th-century preconceptions of the Dark Ages. Amongst these characters are the divinely beautiful but mercenary Superfecta; the money-grabbing burgher, Mijnheer van Cats; and Master Snickup himself, wanderer, ascetic and recluse. Brian Froud's illustrations depict in subtle colors a world teeming with tiny spirits and mutant devils.

So witty and snarky, sad yet fulfilling. This is meant for adults that enjoy a more old fashioned tale. I got this book primarily for the Froud illustrations, so naturally i would've liked more! haha But aside from that, a lovely little read and a great collectible.

I was a little surprised by how dark this story was. But I do approve of the original fairytale format, ie no "happily ever after". And the illustrations are FANTASTIC even for Froud. Over all I liked it a lot. And would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Frouds work.

I bought this for Mike Ploog's art and it is really and incredible book just for that reason. As you flip through the pages you get a real feel of medieval antiquity. I was grateful that Powell's offers expedited shipping, I wish more marketplace retailers did. A fast retailer is a sign of excellence trust and success.

I am an avid collector of Brian Froud and I have to say this may very well be my best purchase ever. I surely is signed my Brian Froud because that is his trademark signature for year and years. I have that little guy on a piece of paper he signed for me. I love this book and it is in the most perfect condition. I would buy from this seller over and over again

A tale of love, betrayal and the rewards of both. The artwork is fun, diverse and as thought provoking as the story itself. Unusual
