Giovanni Francesco Maineri or Gianfrancesco de' Maineri (active 1489–1506) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, active in Ferrara. Putatively born in Parma to a painter Pietro de Maineri. He worked in Ferrara for the ruling Este family. His style recales that of the contemporary Ercole de' Roberti. Lorenzo Costa, another Roberti pupil, completed an altarpiece by Maineri, when the latter left for Mantua in 1498.

Set in a broad network of international relations and fostered by scholars well-versed in Comparative Studies, the inter-university research program "Anglo-American Modernity and the Mediterranean" revolves around the Mediterranean, a key cultural interlocutor of the Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-American world throughout the centuries. The program focuses on the late Nineteenth and the Twentieth Century, a time when copious intercultural exchanges took place between the Mediterranean area and the Anglo-Americans. The research aims at investigating the role played by the Mediterranean in the elaboration of the literary and artistic languages of Modernity. Final purpose of the research is documenting the appearance of a fresh Mediterranean, both in its image and representation. The change in the aesthetic and cultural grammars articulating the new landscape will be studied jointly in relation to the revision of the idea of classical antiquity and in the context of the modern experience of a wider cultural-geographic Mediterranean map. Particular attention will be paid to the processes of hybridization and contamination between languages archaic and recent, verbal and visual, Northern and Southern.
