The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung) is a novella written by Franz Kafka which was first published in 1915. One of Kafka's best-known works, The Metamorphosis tells the story of salesman Gregor Samsa who wakes one morning to find himself. FRANZ KAFKA was born of Jewish parents in Prague in 1883. He then worked for most of his life as a respected official of a state insurance company (first under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, then under the new Republic of Czechoslovakia).

This book is excellent for Kafka scholars, but disappointing for a fan of Kafka's fiction. A lot of the entries are simply "I wrote" or "I didn't write," writing about writing, which is simply boring

Plus, Kafka as a man suffered from a lot of self-torture ("I'm sinful, etc," "I'm wasting my life writing et. ), which diminishes one's respect for Kafka, especially if one is fond of his fiction, which is often rather innocent by contrast.
