very page has 1 to 3 color photos. This is one of only a few books that are souvenir reminders of your visit. The history of the region and art books abound but not a cross-section of scenery and sites.

The book is divided into these headings:
Water- canals, dykes, barriers
Landscape- flowers, poulders
The Structures- historic cities, ultra-modern architecture, ports
The People- traditional, cyclists, ice skaters
Festivities- Carnival, football, parades
The Economy- cheese, fishing, flowers, agriculture, ceramics

I have tourist books from my visit to the country. While they have some photos, nothing compares with this book as a reminder of what I saw.

Enjoyable book, nice for people who have travelled to The Netherlands or who are planning on a vacation. First-rate color photos combined with informative yet concise summaries about Dutch history, economy, culture, and nature. I found these passages very good: "17th-century merchants quickly saw the value of tolerance. After all, trade only thrives in a climate of freedom and mutual respect" (p. 78); the citizen is "accustomed to respecting other people's individuality and to seeking compromise when interests clash" (p. 78); because of centuries of being a densely populated country, and one subject to floods, the state and society have discovered that "a talent for organization is an absolute necessity" (p. 77); they also viewed "the sea as a highway which offered lucrative opportunities in transport and trade", were large in the Baltic trade, Mediterranean, and then in the 1500s and 1600s, the trade with Africa and Asia, bringing a huge variety of commodities to Europe (p. 111); "In 17th century the Netherlands was the richest country in Northern Europe."; finally, the Dutch have the highest density of museums in the world, telling the story of their Golden Age and other ones which inform visitors about modern art, music, technology, 20th century history, and contemporary culture.
