Later in the 1940's, Edmond Hamilton wrote for superhero comics, including Superman and Batman. This shows what qualified him to do that: writing a sci-fi superhero with an offsider or three (the "Futuremen", coincidentally also the name of the fan club). Captain Future is a "great hero", "scourge of evil" etc, physically and mentally outstanding in every way, due to training in his secret moonbase from boyhood by a disembodied scientist brain-in-a-box (Simon Wright), an incredibly strong robot (Grag) and an super-fast and agile android who is also a master of disgiuse (Otho).

This is the second volume collecting four Captian Future stories from 1941, complete with reproduced pulp covers and illustrations, albeit in a separate appendix. There are also fan letters and so on from the original magazine, which are fun to read.

This time around the stories are more varied; not so much detective-adventure with science, as science-adventure with the glimmerings of romance occasionally. There are vivid adversaries - Ul Quorn and his leman N'Rala being the most noteworthy, and their end is perhaps not a final one. Its also interesting to see the various editorial and reader requests begin to be reflected in the books - the brain gains a virtual body, there is a young offsider making a cameo, and Captain Future travels through time and alternate dimensions, none of which is a surprise if you read the letters to the editor in this and Vol 1.

This is simple good clean fun, readable by all ages.

Finding the originals of Captain Future is timely and expensive, but here is a set of volumes containing reprints of 4 magazines in each book. Superb!

Very attractive collection of classics before my birth but important influence nevertheless. Totally out of time like a fine old wine that you have forgotten.

I love to read the full length novels; here in germany most CF stories are only avaible in cut version.
Hope the next volume will be printed soon.
