Not a book for everyone, but it is a well written, early 20 c. novel. The central theme is the Dreyfus affair and, as such, offers a glimpse into anti-semitism in France which was also important in understanding the Vichy regime. MartinduGard, later a Nobel prize winner is a meticulous and thoughtful writer.
