Faced with the loss of everything, they very easily could have given up, or worse, turned against their own cause. But, led by Washington, they did the opposite. And, just like Job, they were eventually rewarded. And if he were not personally strong during that awful winter, then how could he ever expect his troops to be? Not only was Washington assailed by every imaginable obstacle that nature and war could offer, but he was also undermined by his own impotent government. Despite winter’s hardships, George Washington was still very much focused on victory. He began to welcome new volunteers into camp-and his depleted forces obviously needed the help.

George Strong VC (7 April 1833 – 25 August 1888) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Strong was born 7 April 1833 in Odcombe, Somerset. He was 19 years old, and a private in the Coldstream Guards, British Army during the Crimean War, when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

The following year George was faced with a rebellion by the Jacobites, supporters of the Catholic James Stuart, who had a strong claim to the throne. This was concentrated mainly in Scotland, and was suppressed by the end of the year. Another smaller rebellion in 1719 was not a serious threat. With some Tories sympathetic to the Jacobites, George turned to the Whigs to form a government, and they were to dominate politics for the next generation. Opposition to the king gathered around George's only son, the prince of Wales, making their already poor relationship even worse

Who was he really and what is his legacy?Scholars have long disagreed. Was Hamilton a closet monarchist or a sincere republican? A victim of partisan politics or one of its most active promoters?
