However, meta-analytic articles and reports are also rather technical pieces of work that can leave many readers without a clear sense of the results and their implications.

Strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches, as well as of meta-analysis in general, are presented.

This item:Statistical Methods for Meta-Analysis by Larry V. Hedges .

Only 1 left in stock (more on the way). This book brings a new level of statistical sophistication to the problem of comining quantitative measures from different studies. The book will be widely used and admired. Fredric (Fred) M. Wolf.

A meta-analysis is a statistical analysis that combines the results of multiple scientific studies. Meta-analysis can be performed when there are multiple scientific studies addressing the same question, with each individual study reporting measurements that are expected to have some degree of error. The aim then is to use approaches from statistics to derive a pooled estimate closest to the unknown common truth based on how this error is perceived.

As per usual with Sage series, this is a quick and dirty not a detailed tome. It is also a touch dated being from the 80s references are old and newness has worn off. The basics are still there though and it serves as a good primer before moving on to more in depth texts.

A statistician recommended this book to me. Who reads a book on Meta-Analysis and tells you they cannot put it down!
I love the way this author delivers. I could not ask for a better pre-research tool.

Terrific clear instructions on meta analysis. Good overview but lacks instructional tool explanation.

This book is very detailed on the statistical activities around meta-analysis. Some of it is very difficult to take in if you are looking for an overview of this method. However, the information is good and will correlate well once you start looking at meta-analysis studies.

This brief tract provides a good overview of the development and scientific uses of meta-analysis. It is well written and easily accessible to the non-statistician reader.

Everyone involved in empirical work using statistics now needs to understand meta-analysis. This monograph, along with Light and Pillemer's Summing Up, is the place to begin.
