Fix It! Grammar can serve as your primary source of grammar instruction while also developing students’ vocabulary and writing skills. The series makes a perfect companion for IEW’s Teaching Writing Structure and Style since it applies terminology and strategies from that course. White recommends that all students, even teens, begin with The Nose Tree (Book 1) since the knowledge, skills, and strategies taught in each book build upon one another.

Once they correct the errors, the students then write a clean copy of the story that they can enjoy reading. Read on to learn even more about the program. Grammar Meant To Be. According to Dictionary

It also provides practice in key lexical areas. There are regular consolidation units which include forms of testing commonly used in FCE, CAE. It can be used as a self-study reference grammar and practice book, or as supplementary material in classes preparing for examinations. If used for classwork, activities can be done individually or co-operatively in pairs or small groups.

This version is only good if 1) you wish to focus on punctuation and 2) your student is a Jr high to high schooler or a child with a high reading level. The first story - Tom Sawyer, has dialects that can confuse kids. It's a great story but not so much for teaching grammar. The 2nd story used in Fix-It is at a junior high reading level or higher, and the rest of the stories cover even higher grade levels from there. You're better off getting the newer edition of Fix-It! which has each story in its own book. Yes, it's more expensive, but there's more variety in levels. The first couple are at elementary level. Plus, grammar coverage has been expanded. The original version focused on punctuation with some grammar thrown in & didn't have much of a teacher's guide. The new ones have a student book & a teacher book for each with more detailed instructions for each lesson, suggestions for advanced students, for special needs, etc. They are now listed as Fix-It! Book One: The Nose Tree, Fix-It! Book Two: XXX, etc., up to Book Five. You can buy the teacher book & then follow the directions inside to download the student book as a PDF for free at Institute for Excellence's website. Or you may purchase a printed copy of the student book separately if you prefer.

The links are not dead I am using them right now. This book is a deal because it includes several grade levels in one book. You do need to print out the student stories, but the links are still active. You only need to make an account, as it says in the instructions given

After trying 4 other grammar programs over the years, we've finally found one we love! The lessons are short enough that the kids don't whine about "boring grammar" and it's effective. I'm already seeing improvements in their grammar in just 10 weeks and it reinforces what they are also learning with IEW's writing curriculum. I also love that an entire school career of grammar is in this one book. No more having to buy new levels every year! We'll definitely stick with this program through all of schooling!

Haven't really dived into it yet, but at quick glance it seems a tad confusing. I'm sure we'll sort it out.

this is the easiest way that I have ever found to teach grammar. it's also a lot more enjoyable than other programs I've used.

We used The Frog Prince story for our Pahlow's English program. We love the story!

Unfortunately, since this is a gradebook, it is not easy to grade the students work. As it is, the story is broken down into several paragraphs per week of school, each one written as the student sees it to be "fixed". Directly below it is the corrected paragraph. It would be much easier to grade if the answer paragraphs were highlighted and the items to be corrected in the original format were either bolded or written in another color.

It would also be nice if the stories were sold separately.
