I Had a Comrade is a beautiful book physically: glossy pages, photos, maps, and sundry details. Paul Sailer has written a wonderful book filled with stories of courage and sacrifice. The pages fly by as you read this. The chapters are each tasty, quick and satisfying. This is a keeper and a keepsake, a book you will re-visit, lend, and keep proudly in any collection. Only into the third chapter did I come to find out I grew up five blocks away from the subject he writes about, James W. Kerley. History in my own back yard!!
