Geoffrey Squires (born 16 November 1942, in Derry, Northern Ireland) is an Irish poet who works in what might loosely be termed the modernist tradition. While born in Derry, he grew up in County Donegal, Republic of Ireland. He read English at Cambridge, and gained a PhD in multi-media instructional systems in adult education from the University of Edinburgh in 1970.
The meaning of interdisciplinary studies or interdisciplinarity continues to be contested by its practitioners and critics. This book is aligned with the integrationist understanding of interdisciplinarity. But emerging from this debate are key concepts around which consensus is developing and which inform the integrated definition of interdisciplinary studies used in this book. The follow-ing discussion unpacks the meaning of these terms and, in doing so, introduces some of the theory undergirding this diverse and growing academic field. Geoffrey Squires (born 1942) is an Irish poet who works in what might loosely be termed the modernist tradition. Squires was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, but grew up in County Donegal in the Irish republic. After reading English at Cambridge he lived and worked in various countries, including Iran (a long spell in the 1970s), France and the United States, and is a translator of French and Persian poetry. His early work was influenced by the poetry and poetics of Charles Olson.
