A HELPFUL study Bible - if you know to keep it clear in your mind that Swaggart's words (in red) are NOT scripture

A HELPFUL study Bible - if you know to keep it clear in your mind that Swaggart's words (in red) are NOT scripture. Most notably, Swaggart believes (or believed in when he wrote this) in the pre-tribulation rapture, which is a LIE. For this reason I have ambiguous feelings regarding this Bible.

I got chills going up and down my spine. I was living a life of bondage. Drinking alcohol, smoking weed and living a pretty sinful life despite that I asked Jesus into my heart when I was 6. Anyways, one day I turned to SBN and featured a late Jimmy Swaggert. I always avoided his shows because of the 80's and the whole controversy concerning him. But, I began hearing him sing and play the piano, and the messages from his songs really moved my spirit. So, I decided to start watching his broadcast. I noticed that this was a changed man. I saw his son, and grandson preaching and their doctrine was very sound. The holy ghost began speaking to me, and I realized that I was no different than Jimmy Swaggert (his earlier years)because I ran around with various men, did drugs, gossiped and acted like the world even though I proclaimed to be Christian. Jesus revealed to me that he was using this man in his ministry. I noticed that Jimmy will tell people how to break the bondage in their lives(at the cross). One day they featured this bible on their broadcast. (Crossfire edition). I had money in the bank and decided to get 2. Once for my 17 year old son and the other for me. Anyway, through the power of the holy ghost miraculously the Lord sent me to a Christian lady in our community. I told her about the bibles that I ordered. She pulled out the expositors study bible(Adult version). and told me that I ordered the teenager versions. About a week later I received the adult version (for myself in the mail). I am astonished because Amazon made a mistake and sent me the adult version. But, Jesus did not make a mistake because he wants me to have the adult version. The crossfire version that I will be receiving in July will be for my son and it is the (Teenager version). Praise God, Glory to his name! He knows what need! I have been using this bible along with another study bible(Nelson Reference edition) and the nelson bible has scripture references to other scripture, and Jimmys bible has the interpretation so between those two bible-The holy spirit has been ministering to me and showing me things that I did not know. The holy Ghost even gave me scripture because my friend was thinking about joining the 7th day advent church, and the holy spirit gave me scripture explaining the Sabbath, that I am going to share with her. But my life is changed. The chains of my addiction lifted and been set free. Praise God!

A HELPFUL study Bible -- if you know to keep it clear in your mind that Swaggart's words (in red) are NOT scripture. Most notably, Swaggart believes (or believed in when he wrote this) in the pre-tribulation rapture, which is a LIE. For this reason I have ambiguous feelings regarding this Bible.

At first I dismissed out of hand -- how this Bible was put together. Rather than having the explaining notes as footnotes they are included right in the text. It seemed blasphemous. But today I was doing a Bible study with a friend and she had this Bible and was reading the explanatory notes along with the verses we were covering in James, chapter 1. They were excellent -- like having an experienced Bible School teacher in the room with you!

I am not saying the explanatory notes are perfect. There are a couple times I disagreed -- but they were not on important points, and I know they are NOT scripture. They are just there to help WHEN THEY CAN. I'm okay with that. This is so good to have with my King James Version of the Bible (as I do not trust any other version, other than the Geneva Bible for alternative translation from time to time) as I do not agree with all those "experts" who say that the manuscripts used in all of the other English translations (including the so-called New King James) are more accurate when they in fact DELETE Jesus's name so many times out of so many verses.

Anyhow, the explanatory notes are in italicized red. I would have preferred they be in another color (because people are used to expecting red words in a Bible to be Jesus's words), but I'm not complaining because it is VERY clear which words are scripture (black and not italicized) and which are notes (red and italics).

I am surprised to hear this is called a "teenage" version as the woman I know who had it for years and loves it is in her late seventies and I am in my sixties and nothing about it said "teenage" to us other than maybe the cover illustration?

Anyhow, I recently needed to explain in email a difficult-to-understand passage in the bible, and retyped the notes from The Expositor's Study Bible and copy it for you here. It gives you a good idea of what it is like to read this bible (although I cannot on Amazon put the italics OR the red, which all the study notes are in the actual bible pages -- so I just went to a new line every time changing from scriptures to study notes and back -- and the STUDY NOTES are always in PARENTHESES both here and in the book):

LUKE 16:9-13 --

9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness

(simply means that Believers must learn to be faithful with money regarding others and the work of God; money is here called "the mammon of unrighteousness" because the love of such is the root of all forms of evil [1 Timothy 6:10];

that, when ye fail

(when you die),

they

(the Angels)

may receive you into everlasting habitations

(Heaven).

10 He who is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much

(implies that if a Believer is faithful with the money that God gives him, he will more than likely be faithful in all other aspects of his Christian endeavor);

and he who is unjust in the least is unjust also in much

(if the Believer will not allow the Lord to have first place respecting money, he will be unjust as well in spiritual matters).

11 If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon

(this tells us that the Lord judges the faithfulness of a Believer, at least in part, as to how he handles money, which only our Lord refers to as "the mammon of unrighteousness"),

who will commit to your trust the true riches?

(If you can't handle the "least" money, than how can you handle the "much" -- spiritual riches?)

12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's

(strikes at our practical everyday living),

who shall give you that which is your own?

(This tells us that the Lord will not bless anyone who does not discharge their responsibilities as they should.)

13 No servant can serve two masters

(we cannot serve the Lord and ourselves);

for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other

(mostly Jesus dealt with Pharisees; here, He addresses the publicans [tax collectors and such]; they, plus every Believer, must be very careful about money, or anything for that matter that's not truly of the Lord).

Ye cannot serve God and mammon

(places God and money side by side, for this is what "mammon" means, at least in this case; money is not demeaned here by Christ; but the manner in which we hold or handle it; neither is the amount in question, but rather our faithfulness).

THE BEST BIBLE AVAILABLE, ANYWHERE! When you want to know what the real meaning of a verse is, when you think it contradicts itself, this bible makes it crystal clear!! You will never regret buying this bible!!! I give them out as much as I can!

As per other reviews, this is a great bible. The only difference between the crossfire and the original JSM expositor bible is really the cover. However; you will find additional teaching articles are tailored more to the young adults. Like the original expositors JSM has removed the Elizabethian language i.e. 'thee's, thou's, saith' etc and changed it to modern English similar to the New King James. It makes for easier reading, whilst maintaining true word to word translation.

I accidentally purchase the cross fire edition which is meant for youths however am going to probably send it back. Am still comtemplating if I should. I enjoy Jimmy Swaggart ministry so I knew I needed to get one of their bible since It breaks down and explain the scriptures line by line. Plus a friend of mine has the women bible and she loves it.
The bible I purchase was a used one and I got it with few of the pages crush and it had been wet. I love the bible am just not sure if I like the fact that it had water marks on it and it was used. Hmm!!! For that I gave it 4 stars.

This was such a blessed buy! I bought this for one person and ended up giving it to a stranger. I think having the Bible written in a way that people can enjoy and learn is a wonderful thing. I gave it to a young woman and it has been the greatest gift even given.

I bought it for my grandson and he loves it. Going to get one for myself, the one for women.
Excellent study Bible. Get one if you don't have one, helps you understand the bible clearly
